Kaylee Emma Dinger was
born March 8, 2007, the first
child of Corey and Erin Dinger
of McMinnville. She weighed 6
pounds, 9 ounces and was 18-
3/4 inches long.

church service
for community
A Vernonia Community Ser-
vice will be held April 29, start-
ing at 11:00 a.m. at the Assem-
bly of God Church at 662 Jef-
ferson Ave., hosted by Pastors
Wayne and Maureene Marr.
The film “Unchained” by
Mac Gober will be presented
and there will be a fellowship
time with fingerfoods following
the service.

A May Day dance will be
held at the Vernonia Grange
hall on May 5, at 7:00 p.m. with
live music by the “Pebble
Creek Gang” a country and
western band. The cost is $3
per person.
Also on May 5, a joint ven-
ture of the Vernonia Grange
and the Vernonia Public Library
will be the showing of Al Gore’s
Academy Award winning docu-
mentary, “An Inconvenient
Truth,” at 2:00 p.m. at the Li-
brary. Following the movie,
there will be an open discus-
sion on the film and global
warming, at the Grange hall.
Come learn, explore this topic
and express your views.
The annual plant exchange
will be on Saturday, May 12,
starting at 10:00 a.m. and con-
tinuing until there are no plants
left. If you have cuttings or
plants to share or exchange
bring them down. There will be
a master gardener or two on
hand to help with any ques-
tions. For more information,

Grange meetings are on the
third Monday each month at
7:00 p.m. The Vernonia Com-
munity Grange hall is on the
S.E. corner of Washington and
North streets. Every one is wel-
come to any and all events.
Lions Club poker night on May 19
The Vernonia Lions Club will
be holding a No-Limit Texas
Hold Em Tournament starting
at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May
19, at The Buckhorn Restau-
rant. A maximum of 49 players
will be allowed, so early sign
ups are encouraged.
Entry will cost $40. Half of
the proceeds will go to the prize
pool, and the other half to the
Lions Club for their public serv-
ice projects. Prizes will be pre-
paid Visa cards in designated
amounts, based on the number
of participants.
Last year, the Vernonia Li-
ons Club donated over $9,000
to local projects and organiza-
tions. Some of the projects re-
ceiving funds were hearing and
vision screening for students
and seniors, glasses and vision
surgery assistance to those un-
able to afford the services; the
Vernonia Police Dept. D.A.R.E.
car, a K-9 bullet-proof vest,
Echoing Evergreen Youth
Camp, scholarships, the Gales
Creek Diabetes Camp, and aid
for local students to travel to
Washington, D.C.
