Did You Know…
By Chief Mathew Workman
Vernonia Police Department
After
waking
up to the
dusting
of snow
on Mon-
d a y
morning
my wife
and I started thinking we were
back in Nebraska during the
Spring. The only difference is
that the following day would be
80 degrees and there would be
tornado and thunderstorm
warnings! We definitely don’t
miss any of that weather. I
would encourage everyone to
take advantage of the nice
weather to go out and support
our Spring sports athletes. Our
High School and Middle School
teams are very competitive and
fun to watch. It means a great
deal to them to have communi-
ty support and attendance at
their games.
If you have been following
the crime blotters recently, in-
cluding today’s, you can see an
increase in thefts and identifi-
cation related crimes. All signs
point to these crimes being di-
rectly related to drug users.
This weekend I took a report of
items being stolen from a vehi-
cle on “A” Street. Several im-
portant items were taken from
this vehicle including a brief-
case. The owner is less con-
cerned about the other items
taken but would like to get the
briefcase and the enclosed
work documents back. If you
have any information about this
theft, or [f you] find a briefcase
please contact the VPD. There
was mention of a possible re-
ward as well.
I also hear there were other
thefts in the area during the
same time-frame as the theft
on “A” Street. The VPD encour-
ages you to report any thefts no
matter how trivial you may think
they are. The theft on “A” Street
appeared to be an isolated inci-
dent but having received infor-
mation on subsequent thefts,
we were able to narrow when it
occurred and in what area. The
additional information allows us
to pinpoint our investigation
and even identify possible sus-
pects. Even if you do not want
an official incident report filed,
