Obituary
NETTIE ANN BENTZ
Nettie Ann Bentz, 90, Vernonia,
died January 21, 2007. A celebration of
life was held January 27, at the Fuiten,
Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home, in Vernon-
ia, with the Reverend Carl Pense of
Vernonia Foursquare Church officiat-
ing. Interment was at Vernonia Memor-
ial Cemetery.
Mrs. Bentz was born September 10,
1916, in Buffalo Gap, Texas, to Walter
See and Daisy Floria (Stockton) Wingo.
She was raised in Amarillo and Big
Springs, Tex.
In 1934, she married Louis Smith.
They made their home in Phoenix, Ari-
zona. He died in 1974. In 1976, she
married Charles Bentz. They made
their home in Molalla. She lived in Hills-
boro before moving to Vernonia to live
with one of her daughters. She was a
homemaker.
She was preceded in death by four
brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Ken-
neth Smith of Walnut Springs, Tex., and
Eddie Smith of Marcola; four daugh-
ters, Lillian Moore and Louise McMur-
ray, both of Vernonia, Alice Morrison of
Pleasanton, California, and Barbara
Hart of Hillsboro; 25 grandchildren;
many great-grandchildren; several
great-great grandchildren; nieces and
nephews.
Remembrances are suggested to a
local hospice or to a charity of choice.

ALEINE INGA CASTEEL
Aleine Inga Casteel, 75, Vernonia,
died January 22, 2007. Private family
services will be held.
Mrs. Casteel was born October 16,
1931, in Kerkhoven, Minnesota, to
Ralph R. and Edith G. (Lund) Sherman.
She moved to Hillsboro with her family
when she was young. She graduated
from Hillsboro High School in 1948.
She lived most of her life in Hillsboro,
moving to Vernonia recently to be near
her son.
Survivors include three sons, Tom

of Vernonia, Terry of Aloha, and James
of Seattle, Washington; three daugh-
ters, Sally Casteel of southern Califor-
nia, Betty Thomas of Santa Cruz, Calif.,
and Amanda Janes of Aloha; two broth-
ers, Adolph Risen of Monmouth, and
Larry Risen of Clearwater, Texas; a sis-
ter, Janet Gemsom of southern Calif.;
12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchil-
dren; nieces and nephews.

DUANE ANTHONY EWING
Duane Anthony Ewing, 73, LaPine,
died January 22, 2007. Services were
held January 27, in LaPine.
Mr. Ewing was born December
3,1933, near Oberlin, Kansas, to Ray
and Marion Ewing. In 1943, the family
moved to Washington County. He grad-
uated from Hillsboro High School and
attended Oregon State University.
In 1952, he married Ellen Ïaye Sell-
ers. They made their home on a small
farm near Banks, where they raised
strawberries. He drove door-to-door
milk deliveries for Alpenrose Dairy. In
1960, they sold the farm and moved to
Beaverton, where he began selling real
estate. In 1964, they moved back to
Banks, then away again in 1977. In
1982, they moved to Baker City, and to
LaPine in 2004.
Survivors include his wife; five sons,
Chuck of Bonney Lake, Washington,
Lynn of Maupin, Ed of Banks, Tom of
Baker City, and Alan of LaPine; a
daughter, Laurie Bond of Forest Grove;
a brother, Eldon of Coarsegold, Califor-
nia; a sister, Theda of Corona, Calif.; 20
grandchildren; and seven great-grand-
children.

In 1948, he married Mildred Van-
derzanden. They made their home in
Portland until moving to Banks in 1995.
At the age of 12, he began delivering
sawdust by bicycle and trailer. He
worked at Skolfield Fuel Company from
the age of 15 until retiring in 1986 due
to a disability.
Survivors include his wife; a son,
Doug of Portland; two daughters, Linda
Gilbert of Banks, and Debbie Ryan of
Yorktown, Virginia; a brother, Vern of
Dewey, Arizona; nine grandchildren;
and eight great-grandchildren.

EDWARD RUDOLPH LOSLI
Edward Rudolph Losli, 81, Hills-
boro, died January 20, 2007. Memorial
services will be Saturday, February 3,
at 11:00 a.m. at Brookwood Baptist
Church, 3440 E. Main St., Hillsboro.
Mr. Losli was born September 3,
1925, in Beaverton, to Rudolph and
Ethel Abbott Losli. He was raised in
Hillsboro. He served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II.
In 1948, he married Helen Cordrey.
They made their home in Hillsboro. He
worked at Birds Eye Frozen Foods un-
til it closed, then worked in home con-
struction and repair.
He was preceded in death by a son,
Richard.
Survivors include his wife; three
sons, Joel and Andrew, both of Hills-
boro, and Stephen of Vernonia; one
daughter, Nanci Skriko of Hillsboro; 14
grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchil-
dren.
Westside Cremation and Burial Ser-
vice was in charge of arrangements.
WOODROW DONALD LUNZMAN
WILLIAM ROLAND LEVEQUE
William Roland “Bill” Leveque, 78,
Banks, died January 13, 2007. A mass
was held January 17 at St. Francis
Catholic Church in Roy. Interment was
in Skyline Memorial Gardens in Port-
land.
Mr. Leveque was born April 2, 1928,
in Portland, to Marcel and Evelyn
Kindel Leveque. He was raised in Port-
land.

Woodrow Donald Lunzman, 85,
Manning, died January 19, 2007. Fu-
neral services were held January 25 at
the Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home
in Forest Grove, followed by interment
at Union Point Cemetery in Banks.
Mr. Lunzman was born August 26,
1921, in Nelson, Nebraska, to Earnest
A. and Anna D. (Inderlied) Lunzman.
He was raised in Neb., and attended
the University of Nebraska after high
school.
In 1942, he married Mildred F.
Mead. They made their home in Ca-
mas, Washington. He served in the
U.S. Army during World War II. After his
discharge from the Army, they moved to
Lebanon, then to Manning in 1952.
They owned and operated the Manning
General Store until 1963. They later
owned and operated the country Vil-
lage Market and Chevron Station until
retiring in the mid-1970’s. He then went
to work as a postal clerk in Banks for
nine years.
He was preceded in death by a son,
Donald; and a sister, Phyllis.
Survivors include his wife; a son,
Richard of Banks; a daughter, Barbara
Berini of Buxton; nine grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; and one great-
great-grandchild.
Remembrances are suggested to a

DIXIE LEE POLVOROSA
MARY JOANNE MEYERS-COLLINS
Mary Joanne Meyers-Collins, 54,
Manning, died January 16, 2007.
Memorial services were January 23, at
Attrell’s Newberg Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Meyers-Collins was born Octo-
ber 8, 1952, in Portland, to Robert Har-
ry and Adelle Alice Huston Meyers. She
was raised in Sherwood, graduated
from Sherwood High School and at-
tended Portland Community College.
In 1971, she married Gary Cerghi-
no. They later divorced. She married
Gary Collins in 1995. They made their
home in Manning. She worked for Sun
Music Company for many years and
then was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; a
daughter, Renee Meyers of Manning;
her mother of Newberg; her father of
Crooked River Ranch; a brother,
Robert Meyers of Salem; two sisters,
Debbie Henson of Boring, and Sandy
Crawford of Sherwood; and one grand-
son.
Dixie Lee Polvorosa, 67, Vernonia,
died January 16, 2007. A celebration of
life will be held at a later date in Hay-
ward, California, along with interment at
Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and Mau-
soleum in Hayward.
Mrs. Polvorosa was born March 27,
1939, in Dallas, to Stanley and Iris
(Heizelman) Ames. She was raised in
Dallas and on the Oregon coast, until
her family moved to Alameda, Califor-
nia in 1949. She graduated from
Alameda High School in 1957.
In 1958, she married John
Polvorosa. They made their home in
Fremont, Calif., from 1960 until 1997.
They moved to 60 acres in Vernonia in
1998. She worked in the Milpitas Uni-
fied School District from 1980 until
1993, first in an administrative position,
eventually as Director of Communica-
tions.
Survivors include her husband; two
sons, Bradley of Piedmont, Calif., and
Bret of Portland; a daughter, Kristin Lee
Krueger of Danville, Calif.; one sister,
Bonnie Riddler of Seattle, Washington;
six grandchildren; uncles, aunts,
cousins, nieces and nephews.

CLINTON WILBUR PEARSON JR.
Clinton Wilbur Pearson Jr., 85, for-
merly of Banks, died January 13, 2007.
A funeral mass was held January 18, in
Mary’s Woods Chapel in Lake Oswego.
Burial was in St. Francis Catholic
Cemetery in Roy.
Mr. Pearson was born August 14,
1921, in Ronan, Minnesota, to Clinton
and Bessie (White) Pearson Sr. When
he was three, his family moved to Port-
land where he was raised. He served in
the Merchant Marines during World
War II.
In 1948, he married Marcella Kayl.
They made their home on a farm in
Banks for 40 years, then moved to
Lake Oswego in 2001. He was a Port-
land longshoreman for 35 years.
He was preceded in death by a son,
Jim; and a sister, Patsy Radar.
Survivors include his wife; five sons,
Tom of Forest Grove, Dan and Jeff,
both of Portland; Mike of Gleneden
Beach, and John of Beaverton; one
KAREN SUE WOOTEN
Karen Sue Davies Wooten, 63, Alo-
ha, died January 8, 2007. Memorial
services were held January 13, at
Westside Community Church.
Mrs. Wooten was born June 16,
1943, in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 1963, she married Ken Wooten.
They made their home in Portland for
seven years, Vernonia for four years,
then in Aloha for 32 years. She was a
homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; two
sons, Dan and Tim; a daughter, Melis-
sa Kolstad; her mother, Mary Irene
Barfield; a brother, Woodrow Barfield
Jr.; two sisters, Sandra Heidrich and
Linda Wilkinson; and eight grandchil-
dren.
Remembrances are suggested to
the Karen Wooten Memorial Fund at
Westside Community Church.
