are seeing and hearing about
here in Vernonia. The Partner-
ship for a Drug Free America’s
annual tracking study showed
that 1 in 5 teens has abused
prescription pain medication, 1
in 5 report abusing prescription
Need more
room in your
stimulants and tranquilizers,
and 1 in 10 has abused cough
medication. Though I don’t
have actual data, I would ven-
ture to say these numbers are
consistent if not a little bit high-
er here in Vernonia. Over the
last year and recently, we have
received information of all three
of these examples occurring in
Vernonia.
Parents
and
guardians need to speak to
their children about the abuse
of these medications. Many
teens think these drugs are
‘safe’ because they have legiti-
mate uses. If you have current
or older prescriptions for this

tion shall be made and the fee of $150
dollars shall be paid upon approval of
the application by the Planning Direc-
tor. If for some reason the leasee of
these units wishes to keep said unit on
the parcel for more than six months an
application for a Conditional Use shall
be filed with the City and the appropri-
ate fee paid for review by staff and the
Planning Commission. This is in addi-
tion to the verbiage which exists in Or-
dinance 669.
A copy of the proposed amendment
will be available to the public at City
Hall for seven days before the hearing
and may be copied for a fee. Failure to
raise an issue in a hearing, in person or
by letter, or failure to provide state-
ments or evidence sufficient to afford
the decision-maker an opportunity to
respond to the issue preclude appeal to
