Committee will look at potential

fact-finding committee to look
at Vernonia Airport. She ap-
pointed Steve Whiteman as
chair with members Mike Sea-
ger,
Randall
Henderson,
Randy Parrow, and Keith Crim-
mins. She said, “If there is any-
one else who would like to
come forward, I will be happy to
speak with them.” An Airport
Partnership Proposal by Tim
Bero at the July 3 meeting was
referred by Mayor Harrison to
the fact-finding committee for
review.
Council unanimously agreed
to have Harrison and Randy
Parrow work towards a memo-
randum of understanding with
RARE to allow Ben Shumaker
to come back to work for the
City on the codification
process.
Council agreed to hold inter-
im city administrator interviews
July 5, with three applicants;
M.R. “Dick” Kline, Aldie Howard
and Jessica Jones. Mr. Kline is
the only candidate with prior
experience as a city adminis-
trator, having held that position
in both Cornelius and Ontario.
The next regularly sched-
uled City Council meeting will
be July 17, at 7:00 p.m. at City
Hall.
Council picks Kline
for interim leader
Following interviews yester-
day with three applicants for
the temporary position of inter-
im city administrator, Vernonia
City Council agreed to offer a
contract to M.R. “Dick” Kline, a
retired administrator. The con-
tract offer will be contingent
upon the necessary back-
ground checks.
Learning Center nearly ready for use
The Vernonia Community
Learning Center (VCLC) has
been a work in progress in this
community for 10+ years. Rec-
ognizing each community
member who has been a part
of this history is important.
Michele Kunkel is looking for all
and any names of people who
have contributed to the
process.
The building is in the final
days of construction. There will
be a celebratory Mayor’s Ball
with an Open House the follow-
ing day, dates to be announced
soon.
Michele Kunkel is also the
contact for development of the
organizational governance. As
the organizational coach,
Michele intends to bring togeth-
er an effective team with skill
sets to steamline the organiza-
tion and to take pleasure in the
flourishing operations and
