Nehalem Valley C-PAC elections set for April 11-12 Oregon conservation strategy
Columbia County will be
holding Citizen Planning Advi-
sory Committee (CPAC) elec-
tions, for expiring terms.
CPACs provide advice and
recommendations to the Coun-
ty Land Use Planning entities,
including the Planning Depart-
ment, the Planning Commis-
sion and the Board of County
Commissioners. CPAC mem-
bers serve for two-year terms.
Each CPAC is divided into
neighborhoods. Members rep-
resent neighborhoods in which
they reside or own property.
Residents and/or property own-
ers within the neighborhoods
elect their CPAC members.
There must be at least five vot-
ers from each neighborhood to
hold an election for the neigh-
borhood. In order to be eligible
to vote you must show either
picture identification proving
that you live in the CPAC neigh-
borhood where you will cast
your ballot; or a tax statement
proving that you own property
within the neighborhood where
is approved by federal agency
you are voting. You may only
vote once in your CPAC area.
CPAC elections will be held
at Vernonia City Hall on Tues-
day, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. for the
Upper Nehalem CPAC, and at
the Hemeon residence, 14090
Wallace Road, Mist on
Wednesday, April 12, at 7:00
p.m. for Mist-Birkenfeld CPAC.

Oregon Department of Fish
and Wildlife (ODFW) officials
announced the Oregon Con-
servation Strategy has been
approved by the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service.
The strategy charts a course
for the long-term conservation
of Oregon’s wildlife and en-
ables the state to receive new
federal funding for wildlife man-
agement and habitat restora-
tion projects. It also identifies

key ingredients in teaching
youth work ethics, interperson-
al skills and a feeling of self-
worth, according to Adams. He
goes on to explain that, “Many
youth simply don’t excel in the
traditional classroom setting.
Often, the hands-on, tactile
learner can progress rapidly in
an environment of hard work
coupled with tangible results
and outcomes. The actual con-
servation projects are almost a
bonus compared to the growth
we see in the youth,” he con-
cluded.
OYCC has sponsored proj-
ects in the Vernonia/St. Helens
area through the Columbia Riv-
er Youth Corps, St. Helens
School District, the Manage-
ment and Training Corporation,
the Port of St. Helens and the
City of Vernonia for the past
several years. Numerous part-
nerships with natural resource
agencies, groups working on
the Lewis and Clark Trail, and
others, have enabled OYCC to

is critical to preserving our
state’s native fish and wildlife
and their habitats,” said Ron
Anglin, ODFW Wildlife Division
administrator. “This plan takes
a proactive approach to con-
servation…we hope it inspires
Oregonians to become in-
volved so we can benefit from
localized knowledge and ex-
pertise.”
The strategy was developed
by a coalition of scientists, con-
servation groups, landowners,
extension services, anglers,
hunters, and representatives
from agriculture, forestry and
rangelands.
