Adams are looking for a place
to live for the next five months

since one of the aspects he
looks forward to is the opportu-
nity to connect with the public.
At a prior special meeting on
January 20, the board adopted
a calendar for hiring a superin-
tendent to start on July 1. The
notice of vacancy was posted
on the Oregon School Boards
Association (OSBA) website on
Monday, January 23, with a

The district is seeking volun-

Obituary
FELIX HENRY DEVLAEMINCK
Felix Henry Devlaeminck, 90, North
Plains, died January 17, 2006. A funer-
al mass was held January 21 at St. Ed-
ward Catholic Church, with interment in
St. Edward Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Devlaeminck was born March 3,
1915, in Forest Grove, to Ivo and Nellie
Sohler Devlaeminck. He was raised in
Verboort.
In 1941, he married Florence L.
Jenkins. She died in 1949. In 1952, he
married Leona Johnson. He worked in
the hops fields, as a logger and raised
berries and grain. In 1952, he began
Devlaeminck Well Drilling, which he op-
erated until his son took it over.
He was preceded in death by a
brother, John; and three sisters, Mary
Vandehey, Emma Devlaeminck, and
Frieda Herb.
Survivors include three sons, Bert
of North Plains, Joe of Portland, and
Felix of Tampa, Florida; three daugh-
ters, Jane Devlaeminck of North Plains,
Shannon Leigh Loe of Beaverton, and
Carol Tomaino of Lockport, New York;
21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grand-
children.

bulance, which is now MetroWest Am-
bulance Company.
In 1971, she married Raymond Har-
rison. They were involved in home con-
struction in Oregon and Florida and she
worked as a real estate broker in Flori-
da.
She was preceded in death by a
son, Larry Dale Fuiten; a brother,
George Pinkal; and two sisters, Martha
Kujath and Dorothy Hammer.
Survivors include two sons, James
D. Fuiten and Steven D. Fuiten, both of
Hillsboro; a daughter, Barbara L. Chrit-
ton of Sevierville, Tennessee; a brother,
Raymond Pinkal of Benton City, Wash-
ington; four sisters, Elsie Dully of Yaki-
ma, Wash., Betty Worthen of Coos Bay,
Ruby Eckstrom of Silver Bay, Minneso-
ta, and Esther Jolley of Cottonwood,
California; six grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren;
nieces
and
nephews.

IDA FUITEN HARRISON
Ida Lenora Pinkal Chritton Fuiten
Harrison, 85, Hillsboro, died January
22, 2006. A celebration of life was held
January 27, at Fuiten, Rose and Hoyt
Funeral Home in Forest Grove. Grave-
side services were held January 28, in
Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Corvallis.
Mrs. Harrison was born February
20, 1920, in Morrill, Nebraska, to
Adolph and Lenora Achner Pinkal. The
family moved to Sweet Home when she
was young, she graduated from Sweet
Home High School in 1939.
In 1938, she married Howard Chrit-
ton. They made their home in Sweet
Home. Mr. Chritton died in 1948. In
1952, she married James B. Fuiten.
They moved to Forest Grove in 1953
BERTRAM J. “BUD” HERMENS
Bertram J. “Bud” Hermens, 90,
Banks, died January 27, 2006. A funer-
al mass was held this morning at St.
Edward Catholic Church in North
Plains, followed by vault interment at
St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Roy.
Mr. Hermens was born March 27,
1915, in Verboort, to William M. and
Wilhelmina (Bernards) Hermens. He
was raised in Verboort and graduated
from Verboort Union High School in
1933. He served in the U.S. Navy dur-
ing World War II.
In 1947, he married Rita Duyck.
They made their home in Verboort until
moving to Banks in 1978. He owned
B.J. Hermens Garage in Verboort after
purchasing it from his father in 1952.

Bertram J. “Bud” Hermens
He operated the garage until retiring in
1983.
Survivors include his wife; three
sons, Linus of Banks, Paul of Phoenix,
Arizona, and Royce of Durham; one
daughter, Rosalee Hermens of Newton,
Massachusetts; five sisters, Muriel Pet-
ty of Tigard, Eugenia Coussens and
Dorothy Hermens, both of Hillsboro,
Ann Schmidlkofer of Forest Grove, and
Frances Kelly of Walnut Creek, Califor-
nia; and seven grandchildren.
ORVILLE JOSEPH “OJ” ZIEGLER
Orville Joseph “OJ” Ziegler, 66, Ver-
nonia, died January 27, 2006. A cele-
bration of life and family gathering will
be held on Saturday, February 4, at
1:00 p.m. at the family home, 1025
Clatsop, Vernonia.
Mr. Ziegler was born November 28,
1939, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, to
Charles B. and Blanche L. (Peterson)
Ziegler. He was raised in Hutchinson.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps
from 1957 to 1960.
In 1966, he married Charolette
Evey. They made their home in Kla-
math Falls, until moving to Banks in
1968. They lived in Banks and North
Plains before moving to Vernonia in
1970. He served 13 years as Assistant
Fire Chief. He worked as a logger, a
Fire Warden for the State Forestry
Dept. and as a construction worker for
Cascade Construction. He retired due
to illness in 1999.
He was preceded in death by three
siblings, Douglas Balzer, Darrold
Ziegler, and Dorothy Porth.
Survivors include his wife, two sons,
Joseph of Salem, and Timothy of Cor-
pus Christi, Texas; three daughters, An-
gela Budge of Vernonia, Alice Ziegler of
Portland, and Tammy Ziegler of Salem;
one brother, Lester of Hutchinson,
Minn.; four sisters, Lois Phillips of
Sacramento, Calif., Betsy Wright of
Darwin, Minn., Donna Fischer of Buffa-
lo Lake, Minn., and Marilyn Putney of
Silver Lake, Minn.; eight grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
Remembrances are suggested to
any active military or veteran’s founda-
tions.
