The INDEPENDENT, December 15, 2005 Community Community Church holiday services Vernonia Community Church has scheduled special services for the holiday season. On Christmas Eve there will be a service at 7:00 p.m., on Christ- mas day there will be a service at 11:00 a.m. and on New Year’s Day, there will be a serv- ice at 11:00 a.m. The Vernonia Community Church is located at 957 State Ave., Vernonia. Call Grant at 503-429-6790 with any ques- tions. Holiday potluck at Vernonia Grange There will be a holiday potluck dinner, main entree provided, at the Vernonia Com- munity Grange on Monday, De- cember 19, at 6:00 p.m. The potluck is to thank those who have used and supported the Community Grange building over the past year, but every- one is invited. Anyone interested in using the building for upcoming meetings or activities is en- couraged to come on down, enjoy the food and see the fa- cility firsthand. The Community Grange building has been a part of the Vernonia landscape since it was built in 1907. Over the years it has been used for many activities and programs beside the regular Grange meetings and has provided hall space for numerous clubs, groups, churches and labor boards, etc. Everyone is invited to check it out. The Vernonia Grange is lo- cated at 357 North Street. Pioneer Museum holiday offerings Catch the holiday spirit at the Vernonia Pioneer Museum by celebrating with hot cider, Christmas cookies, and music on Saturday and Sunday, De- cember 17 and 18. The muse- um has been decorated for the holidays by Debbie Larson, who loaned her decorations and expertise to help make the museum look festive. Don’t miss this opportunity to visit the museum in its holiday decor. The museum will be closed on December 24, 25, 31, and January 1 for the holidays. The next meeting of the Pio- neer Museum committee will be January 11, at 7:00 p.m. when election of officers will take place. All board positions are up for re-election. Commu- nity members are invited to participate. Live nativity offered in St. Helens A “Community Celebration of the Savior’s Birth” will be presented Friday, December 16, and Saturday, December 17, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in St. Helens, on Sykes Road just a half-mile west of Hwy 30. Everyone is invited to partic- ipate in this beautiful expres- sion of the true meaning of Christmas. Ponder that long ago night of nights as you visit the live nativity and enjoy beau- tiful music while you stroll past the indoor displays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. each night. Then join the members for an evening of sacred music at the free Christmas Concert be- ginning at 7:00 p.m. featuring three choirs – adult, youth, and children – from the surrounding communities. A nursery will be provided. So, don’t eat your Cheerios that morning, come in for a hot breakfast in- stead. Northwest Medical Team will be at the Scappoose Senior Center this month for emer- gency dental work seniors may need at that time. Call for infor- mation. Don’t forget blood pressure checks here at the Center at around 10:30 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month. These are free. Next up Footcare: Decem- ber 30. Your feet are worth a $15 pampering! PA R K I N S O N ’s support group will now be available at the Scappoose Senior Center. Call me for details. Attorney Madelynne Shee- han shared with seniors here on Wednesday, November 30, concerning her new practice and looking forward to develop- ing an elder law specialty. Come in for information.
