Help celebrate Robertson’s 80th
Senior News
By Karen Miller
To all
y o u
Geor-
gians out
there, I
h a v e
lived in
T e n -
nessee
and Vir-
ginia both, but last week was
my first quick three day stay in
your city of Atlanta enjoying
that southern hospitality! It’s so
amazing how we can move so
fast and get from one side of
the country to another in just a
few hours.
Equally amazing is how we
keep things moving here at our
thrift shop with our blue light
specials! Last weekend, our
store was open Saturday and
Sunday, moving things fast with
our bag specials. Thank you to
Shelly Cota for being in charge
of that.

Well, here we are headed
into winter months. Snow and
ice and all the trimmings! You
are starting to slide. What now?
We talk about this and many
other things related to safe driv-
ing. AARP Safe Driving Class
will be available here in Ver-
nonia in January. I am taking
sign-ups now. This is a great
class for updated safety re-
minders, for seniors you can
get lower insurance rates, and
remember, there are NO
TESTS involved! Cost: $10.
FAMILY CAREGIVERS to
seniors in need of respite relief,
call my office to see if you qual-
ify for enrollment in our Respite
Care Program at no cost to

A note from our President
Bill James: We can always
count on the people of Vernon-
ia to help us out when we are in
need. Thank you to those of
you who helped us purchase
our bread trailer to haul bread
and food from the Oregon Food
Bank.

The community is invited to
help Herlene Robertson cele-
brate her 80th birthday on Sat-
urday, December 3, from 2:00
to 6:00 p.m. at the Christian
Church Youth Facility. Her 80th
birthday is December 25, 2005.
Robertson worked at West
Oregon Electric Cooperative
for 34-1/2 years until retiring in
1988. Her job, greeting people
when they came in to pay their
bills, afforded her the opportu-
nity to get to know virtually
everyone in the valley—and
they are all invited to celebrate
with her.
Williams, Wilder wedding at beach
Natalie Wilder and Robert
Williams were married Novem-
ber 16, 2005, at a ceremony in
Cannon Beach. They are mak-
ing their home in Vernonia. Mr.
Williams is the owner and oper-
ator of Williams Metal Fabrica-
tion in Vernonia.
Vernonian to exhibit artwork here
A fine art exhibit of works by
Marilyn Michele K (aka Michele
Kunkel) will be held at Cedar
Ridge in Vernonia on Decem-
ber 16 from 7:00 to 11 p.m.,
December 17 from 2:00 to 10
p.m. and December 18 from
1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The exhibit will feature
works in metal, fiber, paint,
egging, installation and photog-
raphy. “Here, merging into the
season of winter solstice, is an
artist’s interpretation of her own
life-death-life,” said the artist of
the exhibit.
Cedar Ridge is located on
Keasey Road in Vernonia, ap-
proximately 1-1/2 miles from
Bridge Street (Hwy 47).
