Page 14 The INDEPENDENT, December 1, 2005 BM 37 hearings cancelled by Washington County Washington County WIC is sponsoring food drive In response to court rulings on the constitutionality of Ballot Measure 37, Washington County canceled all scheduled Mea- sure 37 public hearings. It will not accept new claims until the state Supreme Court makes a decision on an October Marion County Circuit Court judge- ment that found Measure 37 to be unconstitutional. In addition to finding the measure unconstitutional, the court ordered state and local government defendants in the action (including Washington The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program within Washington County’s Depart- ment of Health and Human Services is sponsoring a holi- day food drive, November 23 to December 16. All food collect- ed will remain in the communi- ty after it is donated to the Ore- gon Food Bank, a nonprofit, charitable organization. Donations may be deposited in Oregon Food Bank barrels at the following sites: • Public Services Building – 155 N. First Avenue, Hillsboro • Sheriff’s Office – 215 SW Adams Avenue, Hillsboro • Community Corrections Ctr – 150 N. 1st Ave., Hillsboro • Walnut Street Center – 1400 SW Walnut St., Hillsboro • Murray Building – 3700 S.W. The or- der also suspended all time pe- riods under Measure 37, includ- ing the 180-day period within which the county or state would otherwise be required to act. The Oregon Department of Justice has filed a Notice of Ap- peal with the Oregon Supreme Court, but there is no date for a decision in the matter. It could be few months or more than a year away. NAAVE meeting will be held December 13 Neighbors Against Apple Valley Airport Expansion (NAAVE) will hold a meeting December 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Banks Public Library.
