We appreciate those affiliated
with the Plymouth Presbyterian
Church, whose valiant efforts
have kept the new shrubs they
planted over the summer wa-
tered. Finally, the Oregon rains
have come back to help them
out. And we’d like to acknowl-
edge Corey and Nora Cherring-
ton, who worked beside Lance
Dethloff and Lisa Dowdy as
guest hosts at Scapponia Park
over Labor Day weekend, en-
suring that campers would
have a safe and enjoyable stay.
Many thanks goes to The Co-
lumbia County Horsemen’s As-
soc. members, who joined with
Oregon Equestrian Trails mem-
bers at a ribbon-cutting cere-
mony at Camp Wilkerson, al-
lowing horses back at the park.
Along with a huge thanks to
those who stayed for the
downed limb clean up: Terry
Ball, Ron Ball, Teresa Coffey,
Rory Hammond, Carole Smith,
Berkely Smith, Lisa Witzel,
Mike Witzel, and Rachel
Kraske. We’d also like to ap-
plaud those who sent in dona-
tions targeted for the horse
camp. So far we’ve received
$300.00 from the Columbia
County Horseman Association
for a picnic table; $500.00 from
Carole and Berkely Smith for a
1-horse stall; and a whopping
$3,000.00 from the Columbia
County Sheriff’s Posse for a
complete 4-stall corral that in-
cludes a picnic table, fire-ring,
and bedding. The County
Parks department is holding
another $500.00 from Carole
and Berkely Smith to act as
matching funds to add for an-
other stall if someone else (or
another group) will donate the
other $500.00. We also have
pieces of the ceremonial ribbon
for sale for a dollar each.
Please contact the Parks’ office
at 503-397-2353 if you’d like to
own a piece of the ceremonial
ribbon as a tribute to horses re-
turning to Camp Wilkerson. All
proceeds will go toward the fu-
ture growth of Camp Wilkerson
Park.

Marijuana plants Lost Lake open
found by Buxton via Hwy 26 now,
The Westside Interagency not Spruce Run
Narcotics Team (WIN), earlier
this month, seized over 460
plants from a marijuana grow-
ing operation in the vicinity of
NW Bacona Road, in the Bux-
ton area.
All of the plants were ma-
ture, according to authorities,
and had an estimated street
value of over $450,000. The
grow operation, on property
owned by commercial logging
companies, was reported by a
local hunter in early October.
An investigation is ongoing
though, as of mid-October, no
arrests had been made. WIN
detectives are asking anyone
who may have information
about the illegal operation to
contact any law enforcement
authority.
Public access to Lost Lake
from Henry Rierson Spruce
Run Campground has been
temporarily closed by the Ore-
gon Department of Forestry.
The campground is open.
Visitors to the southeast
Clatsop County lake may still
access it from Highway 26 at
Quartz Creek Road.
Recent rains and road con-
struction have made the road
unsafe and the closure will re-
main in effect at least until
Thanksgiving.
For more information about
the road closure and re-open-
ing, call Larry Sprouse at the
ODF Astoria District office,
503-325-5451.
