Grad brings business skills back home
Real Estate Broker Andrea
Grant has joined Steve Cal-
houn in the Vernonia office of
Oregon Realty.
Grant, whose maiden name
is Jones, grew up in Vernonia.
After graduating from Vernonia
High School, she took classes
at Pacific University and gradu-
ated from Portland State Uni-
versity. While at Pacific, she
took real estate classes, since
she had always been interest-
ed in real estate. She got her
real estate license in 1998,
started working in the field,
then took a break to marry Ja-
son Grant, another Vernonia
graduate. She returned to work
in real estate in 2001.
Grant, her husband, and two
sons, Nolan and Taylor, moved
back to Vernonia in May of this
year after buying a house listed
with Oregon Realty. That con-
tact with Oregon Realty result-
ed in a decision to bring her
skills to the local market and
leave the commute behind.
The flexibility of real estate
agrees with Grant, not only in
being able to have time with
family, but also being able to
use her skills in any community.
“I’m looking forward to doing
business here in Vernonia, be-
cause it’s home,” said Grant.
Asked why people should
contact her for their real estate
needs, Grant answered, “Be-
cause my heart is in it and Ore-
gon Realty is a great company.”
Andrea Grant
To take advantage of Grant’s
enthusiasm for real estate, and
her local knowledge, she can
be reached at the Vernonia
Oregon Realty office at 825
Bride Street, or by phone at
503-702-1572 (direct) or 503-
429-4300 (office).

will be applied only to
Knotweed leaves and care will
be taken not to spray other
plants. Timing and amounts will
be carefully monitored and all
herbicide application regula-
tions followed.
As time and weather condi-
tions allow, patches that have
been injected will be revisited to
kill off any resprouting plants.
Over the next two to three
years, there will be short visits
to check on the treated patch-
es. Any resprouting will be
again treated.
Large areas of bare ground
left after the knotweed is eradi-
cated will be replanted with na-
tive shrubs and trees.
By signing a “Permission to
Access” form, property owners
will allow eradicators to enter
land only to look for Japanese
Knotweed and to treat any that
is found. Eradicators agree to
take responsibility for herbicide
use. The permission form also
allows someone to return for

two years to check for and
eradicate any small regrowth.
Property owners who would
like to treat the plants them-
selves can receive guidance
and the proper injection and
spray equipment.
Digging up the plant, burning
it and/or mowing it doesn’t work
and will only contribute to its
spread. Many organic means
have been tried to control
knotweed and are essentially
ineffective. One small piece of
living plant can re-infest the
treated area.
The council will keep all in-
formation confidential except to
share the location of identified
knotweed patches with those
involved in assisting with its
control.
