Banks Barbecue enjoyed by
spectators and participants
Banks barbecue returned
this year in a burst of sunshine,
much more successful than
last year’s soggy version. Chil-
dren scooped up candy from
the parade, bounced in the
bouncy house, and rode in half
barrel cars behind a tractor, as
they have in years past. Adults
enjoyed the food, browsed the
vendors and watched the
trucks and tractors.
Adults were also able to en-
joy an expanded beer garden
this year along with live music.
Fund raising activities during
the barbecue benefit Sunset
Park as well as the groups
sponsoring the activities. The
event thus generates funds for
many organizations, while giv-
ing the community a great
weekend. Activities this year in-
School cheerleaders.
New this year was a raffle
hosted by the Banks High
School Future Farmers of
America. The club raffled a
chance to drive in the tractor
pull Sunday. Kevin Duyck do-
nated the use of his bright red
Case International 7120. They
sold 178 one-dollar tickets, with
half the money going to Sunset
Park and half to help out the lo-
cal FFA chapter.
Duyck said that this was a
last minute fundraiser and that,
next year, they will start earlier
and probably generate more in-
come. He also said he might
donate a smaller tractor next
year, since many people were
intimidated by the sheer size of
the machine.
Todd Jackson, who grew up
cluded many favorites such as
face painting and a dunk tank
provided by the Banks High
in the area and wanted to try
driving one of the big rigs, won
the raffle. Duyck said he did a
great job in the contest.
“I went through FFA when I
was in high school and now my
son is in it and I just wanted to
help out,” Duyck said of his in-
volvement. He is also involved
with supporting Sunset Park.
