Open house planned on OA Hill changes
New sidewalks and bike
lanes from OA Hill to Vernonia
Lake are the topic of an open
house planned for Monday, Au-
gust 29, at 7:00 p.m. All citi-
zens, especially those along E.
Bridge Street, are invited to
City Hall to view the engineer’s
plans and to ask questions.
The work will start at Texas
Avenue, along north side of
Bridge Street, and continue on
both the north and south sides
of the street to Riverside Drive.
Funding for the project is from
a grant from the Oregon De-
partment of Transportation.
Work is scheduled to begin in
June, 2006.
Maps and drawings display-
ing the improvements will be
available. Citizen comments
and suggestions are welcome
and will help to make a better
project. Those unable to at-
tend, who would like to submit
written comments, may contact
Kate Conley at 503-429-5291.

VRFPD looking for new board member
With the resignation of Joe
Batty, a vacancy now exists on
the board of directors for the
Vernonia Rural Fire Protection
District. The vacant term ends
July 1, 2007, and will be filled
by appointment by the remain-
ing directors.
Anyone interested in an ap-
pointment to the volunteer posi-
tion needs to submit a letter by
5:00 p.m. on Sept. 2, saying
why they are interested in the
position, along with name, ad-
dress and telephone number.
To be eligible, applicants must
reside in and be registered vot-
ers within VRFPD. The letter
may be mailed to 555 E. Bridge
Street, Vernonia, OR 97064; or
faxed to 503-429-2900.

during a special Board Meeting
on Sept. 7, at 7:00 p.m. A deci-
sion will be made at the regular
Board Meeting on Sept. 13, be-

September Poker Ride in Yamhill
A Poker Ride sponsored by
the Washington County Maver-
icks will be held at the Flying M
Ranch in Yamhill on September
10. Registration is at 8:30 a.m.
and the last rider will leave at
11:30 a.m. The ride will be 2-
1/2 to 3 hours. There will be a
barbeque (donations welcome)
