Whitehead wins Logging Show, Davis wins Sportsmanship award
The following are the results
from the 2005 Vernonia Jam-
boree Logging Show, held on
Sunday, August 7.
Scott Whitehead, from Tilla-
mook, was the winner of the
All-Around Logger title at this
year’s Vernonia Show — the
third straight year Scott has
earned this award. For this
honor, he will be awarded a
gold-plated axe sponsored by
Wilcox & Flegel of Longview,
Washington, at the start of the
2006 show. In addition, he won
a Husqvarna chainsaw spon-
sored by Triple S Service in
Vernonia.
Eric Davis, of Vernonia, was
honored with the Max Sword
Memorial Sportsmanship award.
The recipient of this award is
selected by the judges, based
on the contestants’ conduct
throughout the show.
Because of a change in
schedules, the Columbia
County Logger of the Year, a ti-
tle that goes to the contestant
who accumulates the most
points at competitions through-
out the county, was not award-
ed after the Vernonia show this
year. The 2005 Logger of the
Year will be awarded after the
final logging show of the year
which, this year will be held in
St. Helens. Only those events
which are included in all of the
shows, count toward this hon-
or.
The
shows
include
Clatskanie, Rainier, Vernonia
and St. Helens. Points from the
Clatsop County Fair are also
included.
