mer, Celestial Tyedye and
Serenity G ardens
Herbals
opened a new shop December
15, at 715 Bridge Street in Ver
nonia.
Co-owner Celeste Ferrera
has been tie-dying for six years
and co-owner Linda Spry has
been working with herbals for
15 years. Both have had shops
before, but this is their first full
collaborative venture.
Celestial Tyedye offerings
include quality clothing for the
entire family, from infants to
size 6X. All are hand tied and
hand dyed. There are also tie-
dyed towels, placemats, nap
kins, oven mitts, and aprons.
Tie-dyed cotton canvas bar-
beque aprons will be in stock
soon. Custom orders are avail
able and there are even group
discounts.
Ferrera said “doing the tie-
dye is a passion and a labor of
love. I get a wonderful feeling
while working in the kitchen
and looking out the window at
the deer, other wildlife and na
ture.”
Serenity Gardens Herbals
has a full line of locally grown
herbs plus containers and es
sential oils. Ready-to-go items
include bath salts, massage
oils, lip and body balms, aro
m atherapy
sprays,
liquid
soaps, incense and miscella
neous gift items. Many of these
items, like the bath salts or
massage oils, can also be cus
tom blended for a personalized
product.
Spry would like to see “peo
ple start using items from their
own gardens and creating with
plants,” so she plans to offer
classes during the spring and
summer. She also offers home
herbal parties and catalog
sales.
Long term goals for the shop
include the desire for a larger
store with room for gardens,
workspace and more display
area.
Ferrera and her husband
have lived in Vernonia 23 years
and she has had shops in Hills
boro. Spry and her husband,
Mike, moved to Vernonia 12
years ago and raised their two
children here. Their daughter
will graduate from college this
year. Both Ferrera and Spry
are excited to be able to open a
shop locally and serve their
own community.

The Annual Meeting of the
Upper Nehalem W atershed
Council will be held January 27
at the Mist-Birkenfeld Fire Hall
on Hwy. 202. Included on the
agenda for the 7:00 p.m. meet
ing is election of a board of di
rectors, followed by a short
self-evaluation of the council.
Area residents are welcome to
attend and offer their assis
tance in providing focus and di
rection of council activities dur
ing 2005.
