Obituary
SANDRA JEAN LONG
Sandra Jean Long, 64, a resident of the Vernonia community, died
November 4, 2004 at her home. Private family services have been held.
Sandra Jean Long was born November 28, 1939, in Portland, the
daughter of Art and Vera (Park) Young. She was raised and received her
education in the Milwaukie community, having attended Concord Grade
School and graduating from Milwaukie High School in 1957.
She was united in marriage to Marvin Long on April 13, 1959 in
Stevenson, Washington. Following their marriage they made their home in
Beavercreek until 1990 when they moved to the Vernonia community.
Sandra and Marvin celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary this past
April.
Sandra was a homemaker and mother to their four children. Among her
interests, Sandra enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and camping. She loved her
pets. Sandra had a passion for poetry. She loved her family and especial
ly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Art Young.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Marvin Long, of the family home in
Vernonia; her mother, Vera Young Moyer of Milwaukie; three sons and
daughters-in-law, Ron and Terry Long of Woodburn, Scott and Jeri Long of
Oregon City, and Steve and Penny Long of Salem; a daughter and son-in-
law, Nancy and Larry Schneider of Salem; a brother, Mike Young of Oregon
City; five grandchildren, Valerie Thomas, Tracy Schneider, Steffen
Johnson, Mark Thomas and Daniel Long; three great-grandchildren,
Madison, Adrian, and Erin; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home of Vernonia was in charge of
arrangements.
LOIS L. BEIGHLEY
Lois L. Beighley, 87, Vernonia, died
November 11, 2004. A funeral service
was held November 17 at Fir Lawn
Mortuary Chapel in Hillsboro, followed
by interment.
Mrs. Beighley was born September
17,1917, in Brush Prairie, Washington.
Her maiden name was Betts.
In 1936, she married Raymond L.
Beighley. They made their home in
Portland, then Rockaway, then moved
to Vernonia in 1960. She worked as a
cook in restaurants in Rockaway and
Garibaldi. They bought a box factory in
Garibaldi in 1956, moved it to Vernonia
in 1960 and sold it in 1965. She com
muted to Portland to work at Jantzen
from 1965 to 1968. She lived in
Hillsboro from 1987 to 1992, then
returned to Vernonia.
She was preceded in death by her
husband in 1985; a son, Ken; a grand
daughter, Chia Beighley; two brothers,
Charles and Eugene.
Survivors include her daughter and
caregiver, Joyce Vaughn of Vernonia;
two sons, Iven of Gresham and Walter
of Portland; a step-son, Raymond of
Garibaldi; a sister, Doris Long of
Arizona; seven grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; two great-great-
grandchildren.
Remembrances are suggested to
the American Heart Association.
Fir Lawn Mortuary in Hillsboro was
in charge of arrangements.
PATRICIA CAROL GOODMAN-AGEE
Patricia Carol Goodman-Agee, 67,
Milton Freewater, died November 5,
2004. Graveside services were held
November 12 at Vernonia Memorial
Cemetery.
Mrs. Goodman-Agee was born July
7, 1937, in Baker, Montana, to Rexford
and Ruby Normand. She spent her
early childhood in Hamilton, Montana,
moving to Vernonia later. She graduat
ed from Vernonia High School in 1955
and received an associate’s degree in
accounting from Portland Community

Your suffering I can no longer bear,
my love, so frail and helpless, lying there,
with unbearable pain etched in your eyes,
and muffled sounds o f hidden cries.
Reminiscing, I sit with your hand in mine,
and remember years back, to a special time,

Holding you in my arms, cradled up tight,
I raise the cup to your lips, so pale white,
and ask G od’s forgiveness for what 1 do,
but heaven knows how much I love you.
My face is wet with fast flowing tears,
remembering all our wonderful years,
and as the life slips, from your weakened frame,
I stroke your hair, and whisper your name.
College.
In 1955, she married Elmer (Ben)
Goodman. They made their home in
Prospect, then moved back to Vernonia
in 1968. She ran for mayor several
times, was a reporter for the town
newspaper and volunteered for the
local ambulance. They divorced in
1987.
She married Homer (Jack) Agee in
1988. They made their home in Athena
before moving to Milton-Freewater
where she started her own business,
AG Mountain Realty.
She was preceded in death by four
brothers, Rexford Jr., John, Paul, and
Beryl; four sisters, Marie Goodman,
Ada Evens, Glenda Hall, and Joann
Normand.
Survivors include her husband;
three sons, Jim Goodman of Stansbury
Park, Utah, Ben Goodman of Vernonia,
and Chuck Goodman of Hillsboro; two
daughters, Dawn Poetter and Pollianna
Traylor, both of Vernonia; 17 grandchil
dren; one great-grandchild.
JOHN F. McLEOD
John F. McLeod, 82, McMinnville,
died October 26, 2004. A memorial
service was held October 29 at Yamhill-
Carlton Pioneer Cemetery.
Mr. McLeod was born June 16,
1922, in Dilley, to Albert and Sylvia
Parsons McLeod. He was raised in the
Patton Valley west of Gaston. He
served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to
1945.
In 1947, he married Virginia Redner.
He worked in the logging industry, was
a partner in a portable saw mill, then
was in land and timber investments. He
also drove school bus in Yamhill-
Carlton.
He was preceded in death by two
brothers.
Survivors include his wife; four
sons, J. “Franklin and David, bother of
McMinnville, Wayne and Joseph, both
of Yamhill; a brother, Bryan of Vernonia;
two sisters, Lyla Gass of Clatskanie,
and Wilma Sullivan of Yreka, Calif.; 11
grandchildren.

Mr. Mohme was born July 13, 1930,
in Bowerston, Ohio, to William C. and
Grace L. Graham Mohme. He was
raised in Bowerston and served in the
U.S. Army from 1947 to 1949.
In 1954, he married Audrey Snyder.
They made their home in Cleveland,
Ohio,
and
Jackson
Center,
Pennsylvania, before moving to Forest
Grove in 1987. He worked as a truck
driver for Brians Moving and Storage
and for a sulfur company.
He was preceded in death by a fos
ter daughter, Florence Cardell; four
brothers, and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife; a son,
Michael of Aloha; a daughter, May Lee
Myers of Stoneboro, Pa.; a foster
daughter, Antoinette Mingrome of
Banks; and four grandchildren.

ENID RUTH PARROW
Enid Ruth Parrow, 76, Vernonia,
died November 6, 2004. A Celebration
of life was held November 12 at the
Vernonia
Community
Church.
Disposition was by cremation.
Mrs. Parrow was born July 2, 1928,
in Pinewood, Minnesota, to Walter and
Edna (Parker) Staehnke.
In 1946, she married Arthur M.
Parrow. They made their home in North
Dakota, then Dubois, Idaho, moved to
Dufur in 1951 and to Vernonia in 1968.
She was very active in civic organiza
tions, most recently as president of the
Vernonia Pioneer Museum. She was
instrumental in the designation of the
museum as a national historic land
mark, and played a major role in the
publishing of Vernonia: A Pocket in the
Woods. She was active in Vernonia
Pride, helping to organize the Fourth of
July parade and fireworks as well as
beautification
projects
around
Vernonia. She played a key role in the
development of the Vernonia Walking
Tour and accompanying guide booklet.
She was preceded in death by her
husband; a son, David M.; two broth
ers, Neil of Opp, Alabama, and William
of Bellingham, Washington; and a sis
ter, Betty Peterson of Bismarck, N.
Dak.
Survivors
include
two
sons,
Douglas M. of Salem, and Randall J. of
Vernonia; three daughters, Darlene M.
Parrow and Karen D. Parrow, both of
Portland, and Melodie A. Eckland of
Hillsboro; a brother, David of The
Dalles; two sisters, Feme Anderson of
Bristol, S. Dak., and Shirley Lee of
Watford City, N. Dak.; seven grandchil
dren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Remembrances are suggested to

Pioneer Museum,
Vernonia Pride, or the Dufur Alumni
Association.
