Obituary
LENA ESTHER BULLOCK
Lena Esther Bullock, 91, Albany,
died September 14, 2004. Graveside
services were held September 18 at
Gales Creek Cemetery with a grand-
son, Anton L. Halsey, officiating.
Mrs. Bullock was born May 29,
1913, on her grandparents’ homestead
in Gales Creek, to Joshua Jeremiah
and Cora Blanche Pratt Adkins. She
graduated from Forest Grove High
School.
She married Glenn A. Cody, they
divorced. In 1946, she married Robert
S. Bullock. They made their home in
Cottage Grove, then moved to Forest
Grove in 1968. She moved to Albany in
1993 to live with a daughter. She was a
homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her
husband; a daughter, Roberta S. Bul-
lock; a sister, Ethel McRobert; and a
brother, Harold Adkins.
Survivors include son, Jerry Cody of
Salem; four daughters, Janice St. John
of Forest Grove, Joann Sproul of Al-
bany, Judith Lanter of Banks, and Mary
Lessley of Olympia, Wash.; three step-
daughters, Evelyn Hotchkiss of Wood-
land, Calif., Vicki Johnson of Portland,
and Bonnie King of Hood River; 18
grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren;
31 great-grandchildren; 15 step-great-
grandchildren.

STELLA BROWN
Stella Brown, 96, Aloha, died Sep-
tember 18, 2004. A funeral mass was
held September 22 at St. Anthony’s
Catholic Church in Forest Grove, with
the Rev. William Holtzinger as cele-
brant. Interment took place at St. Fran-
cis Catholic Cemetery in Roy.
Mrs. Brown was born August 20,
1908, in Ellis, Kansas, to Carl And Min-
nie Gaschler Landauer. She was raised
in Ellis.
In 1931, she married Leo J. Riedel.
They moved to Banks in 1936 and di-
vorced in 1944. She married Bob D.
Brown in 1954. They lived in Forest
Grove and divorced in 1985. She later
moved to Aloha to live with a daughter.
She worked as a machine operator for
Gray and Company in Forest Grove for
many years, retiring in 1972.
She was preceded in death by two
brothers and a sister.
Survivors include two sons, Charles
Riedel of Athens, Tennessee, and Gor-
don Riedel of Clackamas; two daugh-
ters, Marlene Olheiser of Forest Grove
and Rita Duncan of Aloha; two sisters,
Vica Kinderknecht of Ellis, Kansas, and
Rosie Spiering of Forest Grove; three
brothers, Henry Landauer of Forest
Grove, Rudy Landauer of Verboort, and
Fritz Landauer of Milwaukie; 14 grand-
children; 35 great-grandchildren; 25
great-great-grandchildren; nieces and
nephews.

THOMAS STORY CARLILE
Thomas Story Carlile, three months
of age, died September 14, 2004. A
memorial service was held September
17 at the Natal Grange Hall followed by
burial at the Mist Cemetery.
Thomas was born June 6, 2004, in
Mist, to Julia Carlile and Jose Guillen.
He was preceded in death by a
great-grandfather, Wendell Story
Carlile.
Survivors include his parents; two
brothers, Seth Cutright and Jose
Guillen, Jr.; four sisters, Hope Cutright,
Faith Cutright, Cloe Guillen, and Emma
Guillen; grandparents, Tommy and Ra-
mona Carlile of Vernonia, Rebecca
Carlile of Grants Pass, Damaris
Maisoniet and David Rule of Washing-
ton; great-grandparents, Mary Lou
Carlile of Redding, Calif., Patricia
Brunell of Grants Pass, Steve and
Katie Johnson of Brookings, Virginia
Porter, Hazel Hamer, Ede Hamer;
aunts, uncles and cousins.

DONNA SUE DAVIS
Donna Sue Davis, 59, Hillsboro,
died September 27, 2004. Funeral
services were held September 30 at
Fuiten, Rose and Hoyt Funeral Home
in Forest Grove, with Peter Clay offici-
ating. Interment was at Union Point
Cemetery in Banks.
Mrs. Davis was born November 26,
1944, in Pike County, Missouri, to
Ernest and Florence L. Woratzeck Pot-
ter. She was raised in Pike County and
Arizona.
In 1961, she married Tim Davis.
They made their home in Banks, then
Pacific City, then returned to Banks.
They moved to Hillsboro in 2002. She
worked at the Montano Mink Farm in
Forest Grove and at Flavorland Foods
in Forest Grove until a 1983 injury dis-
abled her.
Survivors include her husband; a
son, John Joseph of Hillsboro; two
daughters, Tina Louise Davis of Banks,
and Donna “Sue” Herinckx of Cor-
nelius; a brother, Harold Potter of Bowl-
ing Green, Mo.; a sister, Theresa May
Roan of Bowling Green, Mo.; 11 grand-
children; nieces and nephews.

Beaverton Foursquare Church.
Mr. Harding was born July 13, 1943,
in Ely, Nevada. He had lived in the Port-
land metropolitan area for 30 years.
In 1988, he married Chelsea. He
was the owner/operator of Cascade
Pacific Lumber Brokerage for 17 years
until his retirement in 2002.
Survivors include his wife; five sons,
Fred E. III, Sherman Rake, and Wilbur
Harding, all of Beaverton, Michael
Walsh of Nashville, Tenn., Robert Rake
of Portland; two daughters, Jennifer
Opal Nash of Kalama, Wash., and
Teresa Taylor of Timber; 22 grandchil-
dren; six great-grandchildren.

JOHN ROBERT LOUCKS
John Robert Loucks, 82, Sequim,
Washington, died September 28, 2004.
A funeral service was held October 4 in
Sequim.
Mr. Loucks was born June 4, 1922,
in Joliet, Illinois, to Ray and Mildred
(Chamberlin) Loucks. He was raised in
Joliet. He served in the U.S. Army dur-
ing World War II.
In 1942, he married Norma Eliza-
beth Peterson. He worked as a machin-
ist in California, owned a dairy in Jew-
ell, was a mill worker in Birkenfeld and
retired in Sequim.
He was preceded in death by his
wife; and four brothers, James, Erin,
Donald, and David.
Survivors include son, Larry Ray
Sr.; daughter, Diane Louise Loucks;
one brother, Ray of Flippin, Arkansas;
one sister, Jean Marie Loucks of Proc-
tor, Ill.; four grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren.

Shirley Ellen Martin, 81, died Sep-

Mrs. Martin was born June 6 ,1923,
in Portland, to Gus and Hanora Hewitt.
She was raised in Beaverton.
She was the owner/operator of Mar-
tin Sheet Metal Company and worked

WILLIAM “BILL” GERARD MAYER
William “Bill” Gerard Mayer, 72, Cor-
nelius, died September 13, 2004. A fu-
neral mass was held September 17 at
St. Alexander’s Catholic Church in Cor-
nelius with Rev. David Schiferl as cele-
brant, followed by private interment.
Mr. Mayer was born February 2,
1932, in Portland, to Carl and Wilma
(Vanderbeck) Mayer. When he was 10,
the family moved to Forest Grove. He
graduated from Forest Grove High
School in 1950. He received a degree
in accounting from Oregon State Uni-
versity, then served in the U.S. Army
during the Korean conflict.
In 1954, he married Elizabeth “Bet-
ty” J. Pliska. They lived in Hillsboro,
Aloha and Bend before divorcing in
1973. He married Alberta Vassar in
1975, she died in 1995. They lived in
Sonoma, California. In 1996, he mar-
ried Della M. Garrison Hester Charmley
Nunn. They made their home in Cor-
nelius. Mr. Mayer worked for Tektronix,
then was a rancher in Bend. He retired
as a sales representative from Cutco
Knives in Sonoma.
Survivors include his wife; two sons,
Daniel of Banks, and Tony of Longview,
Washington; three daughters, Debe
Hamilton of Aloha, Sherri Costello of
Salem, and Angie Howard of Bend; a
brother, Herman J. of Forest Grove;
three sisters, Geri Duyck of Cornelius,
Marie Anderson of St. Helens, and
Jeanette “Nettie” Broemeling of Forest

Helen L. Pemble, 77, Hillsboro, died
September 11, 2004. A memorial serv-

Memorial Sunset Chapel.
Mrs. Pemble was born May 4, 1927,
in Vancouver, Washington. Her maiden
name was Fowler. She graduated from
Vernonia High School.
In 1946, she married Weston Pem-
ble. She worked as a plant scheduler
for Tektronix for 18 years.
Survivors include her husband; a
son, R. Scott; a daughter, Candice
Pemble-Belkin; three grandchildren.
