All-Around Logger title to Scott Whitehead Scott Whitehead, from Tilla- mook, won the All-Around Log- ger title at the 2004 Vernonia Jamboree Logging Show and received a Husqvarna chain saw from Triple S Service of Vernonia. Matt Samuelson was leading the show with 21 points to Whitehead’s 19 points going into the final three events. Whitehead then pulled ahead and won with a total of 29 points to 24 points. Matt Samuelson’s name will be added to the Columbia Coun- ty Logger of the Year trophy being held by David Thompson. Participating in the presentation is Bill Woolsey, at right. Sportsmanship title goes to Robert Eide Robert Eide from Vernonia was honored with the Max Sword Memorial Sportsman- ship award. The recipient of this award is selected by the judges, based on contestants’ conduct throughout the show. Despite running into a few diffi- culties during some of the events, Eide kept a smile on his face and showed what true sportsmanship is all about. Matt Samuelson earns 2004 title for county shows Matt Samuelson, of Elsie, is the 2004 Columbia County Logger of the Year, a title he earned by accumulating the most points at the four logging shows in Clatskanie, Rainier, St. Helens and Vernonia, plus the Clatsop County Fair. This was the first year that points from the Clatsop County Fair show were included. Jeremy Chalk kept Samuelson on his toes throughout all five of the shows and lost the title by only one point. For the Logger of the Year ti- tle, Samuelson took home a new Husqvarna chain saw from Cowlitz River Rigging in Longview. He will also receive a gold-plated axe award, spon- sored by Wilcox & Flegel, at the start of the 2005 show.
