SWCD offering workshops for small landowners
Have you had the good for-
tune to buy a place on a creek
and are wondering how to care
for your stream and improve it
for livestock and fish? Are you
raising horses and wondering
why you have to buy more feed
each year as your land’s pro-
ductivity declines? Do you
know if the beautiful plant you
just received from a nursery
across the country might be on
the state’s noxious weed list?
The “Living on the Land” se-
ries of workshops answers
these and many other ques-
tions facing today’s small
landowners. Upcoming work-
shops sponsored by the Co-
lumbia County Soil & Water
Conservation District (CSW-
CD), include the following:
Water workshop on May 6,
7-9:00 p.m., covers Water Qua-
lity, SB1010, Water Rights &
Law, and Conservation Plan-
ning.
Land workshop on May 13,
7-9:00 p.m., will cover Pasture
& Grazing, Weeds, Soil Ero-
sion, Organic Farming and
NRCS Programs.
Animal workshop on May
22, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.,
will include Equine, Livestock,
Mud/Manure Management, An-
imal Health and Pasture Man-
agement. This workshop in-
cludes a tour (1-3:00 p.m.) of a
successful equine ranch using
Best Practices for raising
healthy horses.
All workshops will be held at
the OSU Extension office.
Space is limited, please call the
Columbia SWCD at 503-397-
4555, ext. 100 to participate.
