Vernonia area CPAC election set
Columbia County will be
holding Citizen Planning Advi-
sory Committee (CPAC) elec-
tions for positions whose term
is expiring.
CPACs provide advice and
recommendations to the Coun-
ty Land Use Planning entities,
including the Planning Depart-
ment, the Planning Commis-
sion and the Board of County
Commissioners. CPAC mem-
bers serve for two-year terms.
Each CPAC is divided into
neighborhoods, with members
representing the neighbor-
hoods where they live or own
property. Residents and/or
property owners within the
neighborhoods elect their
CPAC members. There must
be at least five voters from
each neighborhood to hold an
election. Eligibility to vote in
your neighborhood requires ei-
ther picture identification with
your address, or a tax state-
ment proving you own property
within the neighborhood. You
may only vote once in your
CPAC area.
The second CPAC election
for the Vernonia area will be
Tuesday, April 13, at 7:00 p.m.
at Vernonia City Hall.
Other second elections will
take place in Clatskanie and
Rainier in April. For more infor-
mation contact Glen Higgins or
Jim Holycross at 503-397-
1501.
Last Lewis & Clark Bridge panel placed

inally estimated.
“It’s wonderful to see the
Lewis and Clark Bridge deck
replacement project progress-
ing so quickly towards comple-
tion,” said WSDOT Assistant
Secretary John Conrad. “This
project presented us with a lot
of unique challenges that were
successfully addressed using
highly innovative construction
techniques, which ultimately
saved the state both time and
money.”
During the last few months
of construction, project contrac-
tor Max J. Kuney Company, will
concentrate on finishing the
new bridge deck, smoothing
joints between the deck panels,
completing roadway widening
on both sides of the bridge and
installing new lighting poles.
Remaining traffic impacts on
the bridge will be:

deck panels was lowered into

Bridge during the night time
closure on March 24, marking

construction, according to the

and April 23-26. If rain is fore-
cast for either of these clo-
sures, it will be rescheduled.
These closures will be used to
install 1,575 feet of concrete
paving. The Wahkiakum Coun-
ty/Puget Island ferry will be
available free of charge during
both weekends, and the emer-
gency medical helicopter will
be standing by on the Oregon
side of the bridge.
Additional full nighttime clo-
sures also will be required to
complete remaining work. Five
full closures are tentatively
scheduled for the nights of April
4-7 and 15. Night-time single-
lane closures will be used to
complete most of the final work.
Until the project is completed,
intermittent slowdowns will
continue and motorists should
expect brief traffic delays.
Regular updates will contin-
ue to be posted on the project’s
Web page at <www.wsdot.wa.
gov/projects/lewisclarkbridge>.
