Blended family group to meet
Syncho Fire takes top honors at meet
A free parent support forum
will be held at St. Helens Head
Start, April 7 from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. Judy Jackson, MST, will
facilitate a group session on
Blended Families: Family Iden-
tity and Roles.
Blended families face addi-
tional challenges in familial re-
lations, definition of roles and
finding a way to live together in
harmony. This discussion-
based group seminar is free,
St. Helen’s Synchro Fire
took top team honors when
they hosted an invitational syn-
chronized swimming meet at
Eisenschmidt Pool on February
29. Athletes from four Metropol-
itan area teams competed in
compulsory figures and water
routines.
During the morning session,
judges rated individuals on
technique and skill in executing
a series of four compulsory fig-
ures. Cassie Beehler of St. He-
lens took first place in the 14 –
15 age group at the intermedi-
ate level, while Lauren Mc-
Causland, also of St. Helens,
finished sixth for 12 – 13 year
olds. Jennifer Hayes of Vernon-
ia placed first for novices, nine
and under, followed closely by
teammates Mikela Heimuller, in
second, and Rebecca Wolf in
fourth, both of St. Helens.
Jonelle (Joey) Solomon of
Scappoose secured eighth
place in the 12 and under class
against 19 other athletes.
The host team dominated
the afternoon, with Beehler and
McCausland capturing first
place for their duet perform-
ance to the music of Pirates of
the Caribbean. The team of
four novices, J. Hayes, Hei-
muller, Solomon and Wolf,
“rock and rolled” their way to
first place in team competition
with music from Lilo & Stitch.

Parenting class Adoptive/foster
A class to help parents en- families needed
courage language and literacy
to benefit your child’s develop-
ment, will be held April 7, 6-
7:30 p.m. at Tuality Health Ed-
ucation Center, 334 SE 8th
Ave., Hillsboro.
The class will identify mile-
stones development between
birth and age 5, suggest ways
to support these skills as chil-
dren learn to read and write,
and show how these skills help
enhance school achievement.
The class is provided by
Washington County Coopera-
tive Library Services. It is free
and no registration is required.

Hein and Weller make OIT list
Vernonia High School grad-
uates Stephanie Hein and Eric
Weller have been named to the
2004 winter president’s list at
Oregon Institute of Technology.
Inclusion on the list requires
a 3.70 grade point average and
above. Only full-time students
(12 credit hours or more) are
eligible for academic honors.
Hein is studying Manage-
ment/Accounting. Weller’s ma-
jor is in Health Sciences.
