admit it is nice to have a man
around the “house,” isn’t it? A
big thank you to two new team-
mates, Gene Baska, out shov-
eling snow for one, and also
Bud Gibson, helping to haul
heavy donations to sorting, and
our beloved Russ Taylor helps
in the kitchen. GREAT JOB,
GUYS!!!

Sign up for foot care day, Jan-
uary 23, here at the Center. Our
Podiatrist does a great job. This
is a free service, funded through
Community Action Team. Dona-
tions gladly accepted.

er male figure around the

Street; Metro West volunteer
dispatcher, Bill Yeo. Bill has
been in this position for 11
years, six days a week, with
senior transportation. He also
oversees the popular bread de-
livery twice a week. Beside all

this, Bill has been park host at
Vernonia Lake for the past sev-
en years, President of Vernonia
Cares for the past seven years
and, in his “spare” time, calls
benefit auctions for Columbia
County as a volunteer service.
Bill enjoys auctioneering and is
quite good at it after being self
taught as a teenager in the hills
of Missouri 52 years ago. Pre-
Senior Center days, Bill was
owner/operator of a cross
country trucking and big lead
logging outfit and is still in-
volved in cattle ranching with a
son who resides in Canby.
But Bill’s “reel” love? Helping
and teaching kids to fish in Ver-
nonia Lake, watching their de-
light as he takes their picture
with his Polaroid.
Bill would gladly accept any
spare rods and reels to help
him out with his favorite pas-
time!
Not bad for a father of six,
with 62 grands and greats.
P.S. Plus, he plays a mean
pair of spoons with the Golden
Oldies here on Wednesdays.

Lion’s Club holds
Feb. open house
The Vernonia Lions Club in-
vites those who are interested
in serving their community and
meeting a great group of men
and women to come to an
open house at the Vernonia
Scout Cabin on February 18.
Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. fol-
lowed by a short meeting. A
door prize drawing will be in-
cluded.
There will be a guest speak-
er to provide an overview of
how the Lions serve the com-
munity. The Lions main focus is
on sight and hearing, but you
will be surprised at the number
of projects with which the Lions
are involved.
Both men and women are
members of the Lions Club.
