Holiday Lights Parade Come see Vernonia’s first Holiday Light Parade on Satur- day, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. The streets will be lit up by the Christmas lights adorning the participating log, lumber, chip, and dump trucks. If you have such a truck and want to add lights, come join in and have some holiday fun. While you are out and about, check out the city’s Christmas decorations and lights. In addition to the wonderful handmade items for sale, there will be homemade soups with fresh hot rolls, hot cinnamon rolls, pizza, and many choices of pies and desserts. When you give a toy, you can also get your picture taken with Santa Claus. The deadline to apply for help from Toy ‘n’ Joy is Decem- ber 10. Applications are avail- able at Washington Grade School, Headstart, and at the Toy Drive. Return applications to the Vernonia Fire Station. The Vernonia Volunteer Fire- fighters Association organizes and sponsors Toy ‘n’ Joy. A Chrismas Carol A unique ‘readers’ rendition of Charles Dickens “A Christ- mas Carol” will be presented by the North Street Players, a newly formed theater group in Vernonia. Three performances are scheduled, Dec. 14, 15, and 16 at 7:00 p.m., with doors open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets will be on sale at the door for $2.00, plus one non-perishable food donation for Vernonia Cares. Adapted and directed by G. Allen Ray, this in-the-round pro- duction will provide a different kind of theater experience for many people. Cast members for this pro- duction of “A Christmas Carol” include (in alphabetical order) Amber Abney, Tammy Argue, Jake Brock, Ben Brookins, Lau- ra Brookins, Larinda Botchie, Cory Colburn, Jessica Dahl, Carrick Flynn, Conner Flynn, Lila Harrison, Sally Harrison, Holly Hillyer, Scott Laird, Jacob The Mist School Christmas program will be Wednesday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. The Vernonia grade school programs will be held on Thurs- day, December 18 at Washing- ton Grade School (WGS). There will be two perform- ances at WGS, a matinee at 1:15 p.m. and an evening per- formance at 7:00 p.m. The matinee will be preced- ed by a Senior Luncheon at WGS. All seniors are invited to attend. If transportation is needed, call WGS at 503-429- 7941. The WGS/LGS program is entitled “Traditions” and is built around United States holiday traditions, from what it was like in 1776 to current Kwanzaa cel- ebrations. Expect to see ap- pearances by George and Martha Washington. Kindergarten through eighth grade will perform two songs per class. This is sure to be an enjoyable holiday presentation. Col. Co. Fairgrounds Holiday events at the Colum- bia County Fairgrounds include Santa’s Mail Box, through De- cember 25, with each letter an- swered. Sponsored by St. He- lens Kiwanis. Drive-through Christmas Light displays, 5-9:00 p.m. on Decem- ber 12, 13, 14, 19, and 20. Live Nativity and drive- through Christmas Lights, 6- 9:00 p.m., December 21, 22, 23, and 24. Sponsored by Grace Baptist Church. Christmas Concert The annual Vernonia com- munity Christmas Concert will be presented on December 20, at 3:00 p.m. at the Christian Church, 410 North Street. The concert will include per- formances by three groups – a string ensemble, a choir, and a band. The performers, amateur musicians of all ages, will be di- rected by professional conductors. This is a great opportunity to discover, and enjoy, some of the many talents in your com- munity! Sponsored and organ- ized by Vernonia Hands on Art, the concert is free, though do- nations will be gladly accepted.
