Washington County seeks board
members for five committees
The following Washington
County boards are currently
seeking applications for new
members:
Developmental Disabilities
Council
(4 terms to expire 12/31/03)
Identifies community needs,
recommends funding priorities,
and helps select and evaluate
service providers. The County’s
emphasis on contracting with
community agencies for social
services makes the work of this
volunteer advisory council critical.
Housing Advisory
Committee
(2 current vacancies, 1 term
to expire 12/31/03)
Providing affordable housing
is a formidable job. Nine repre-
sentatives from real estate,
banking, building, agriculture,
employment, public housing
and neighborhoods help the
Housing Services Department
and the Board of Commission-
ers with this task. The Commit-
tee assists by making recom-
mendations on housing policy
issues and on the use of nearly
$1,000,000 annually to build af-
fordable housing.
Budget Committee
(2 current vacancies)
Reviews
the
proposed
County budget each fiscal year.
Enhanced Sheriff's Patrol
District Budget Committee
(2 current vacancies)
Reviews the proposed budg-
et for unincorporated Washing-
ton County. Members must live
in the ESPD.
Urban Roads Maintenance
District Budget Committee
(2 current vacancies)
Reviews the proposed budg-
et for unincorporated Washing-
ton County. Members must live
in the URMD.
The application deadline is
December 15, or until all va-
cancies are filled. Applications

The
National
Shooting
Sports Foundation partnered
with Governor Kulongowski and
local law enforcement agen-
cies, to distribute nearly
300,000 free gun locks in Ore-
gon. The gun lock giveaway is
part of the national Project
ChildSafe initiative, funded by a
$50 million dollar grant from the
Department of Justice and will
provide nearly 20 million free
gun locks nationwide.
At the free gun lock give-
away, interested families will
also be treated to a seven-
minute Eddie Eagle gun-safety
