The organized youth groups
of Vernonia continue to use it
at no cost to them. Currently
we have two Cub Scout, two
Girl Scout, and one Boy Scout
groups using it weekly. High
school groups and youth sports
groups have also used it.
To those that are new to the
community, a little background
on the building. It was first built
by volunteers in 1928 for the
Camp Fire Girls, later the build-
ing was acquired by the city
and used by the Boy Scouts
and other community activities.
In later years, the building was
left to deteriorate.
After the flood of 1996, a
group of concerned people
who did not want to see the
building destroyed formed a
non-profit organization, called
the Friends of the Scout Cabin,
and took ownership of the
building. The land is leased
from the city.
With fundraisers, grants,
generous donations, and most-
ly donated labor by a few dedi-
cated men, the building was
enlarged and rebuilt.
The building is equipped
with tables, chairs and kitchen-
ware for 100 people. In the
summer, there is outdoor furni-
ture for 45.
The rental for the facility is
$25.00 per hour or 6 hours for
$125.00. Full use of the kitchen
is an additional $25.00.
Obituary
Volunteers do the mainte-
nance of the building, so if you
have time to spare, we could
use your help. In addition, if
you would like to serve on our
advisory committee, we would
welcome you.

reservation, please call Shirlee
