The Vernonia Police Depart­
ment in conjunction with Pro­
ject Childsafe will be providing
free gun locks. Project Child-
safe is managed by the Nation­
al Shooting Sports Foundation
and funded by a grant from the
U.S. Department of Justice. In
Oregon, 294,000 gun locks will
be distributed, including 800
available for Vernonia.
You may obtain a free gun
lock by calling the police de­
part. at 503-429-7335 and
making an appointment to pick
up your lock. Police volunteer
Floyd Ragner is coordinating
the local program.
