it wasn’t

camera shy after my last photo

snapped 40 couples’ photos, I
realized I had no film in my

Help for senior Medicare benefits
Oregon’s Senior Health In
surance Benefits Assistance
(SHIBA) program wants to hear
from those who believe they’ve
been illegally turned down for
Medicare supplemental insur
ance.
Both Oregon and federal
laws guarantee Medicare ben
eficiaries the right to purchase
a supplemental or Medigap pol
icy in some situations outside
of open enrollm ent periods.
These are guaranteed issue
rights or Medigap protections.
SHIBA, a joint federal-state
program that helps Oregonians
with M edicare make better
health insurance decisions, is
participating in a federal project
to identify guaranteed issue vi
olations by insurers. Those with
Medicare who believe their
guaranteed issue rights have
been violated are asked to con
tact SHIBA at 1-800-722-4134
(toll-free in Oregon).
SHIBA has volunteers who
can help beneficiaries deter
mine if they’re eligible for bene
fits they aren’t receiving, com
pare policies, file claims and
appeals and complaints.
For more information, call
SHIBA’s toll-free line to receive
a free booklet, Oregon Con
sum er Guide to Medigap and
Medicare + Choice Plans, or
