Vernonia area citizens, and to

ten to prope rty o w n ers' c o n
cerns. It turns ou t that ou r ow n
C ounty agencies, (ie: land use
planning) are p e rfo rm in g the
enforcem ent of S tate of O re
gon-m andated regulations.
If o u r C ou nty C o m m is s io n
ers are succe ssful in m aking
the new rules and regulations
less intrusive on prope rty o w n
ers rights, the n th e y and Land
Use P lanning are to be c o n
gratulated. It is up to the rest of
use to go a fte r o u r S tate R ep
resentatives and S tate S e n a
tors to m ake the m m ore re
sponsive to us, th e ir e m p lo y
ers!

has been breathtaking and we

O u r A d o p t-A -B e d program
has been a success. O ur co m
m unity has been responsive in
sponsoring she lter beds at the
c o s t of $ 2 5 .0 0 d o lla rs pe r
m onth. T he s h e lte r is a 26 bed
facility; we have been fortunate
tha t m ost of the beds have
been sponsored each m onth
since the program started in
February 2003. In sponsoring a
bed, the do nor is ensuring that
each w om an an d /o r child has a
clea n/safe room in an en viro n
m ent tha t is m onitored by crisis
staff 24 hours pe r day, 7 days
per w eek. W e w ill continue the
A dop t-A -B ed program o ve r the
com ing year and ou r goal is to
have all of ou r beds (26) spo n
sored each m onth.

projects such as landscaping,

and asked us what she could
do as a volunteer at the C enter
and we have been honored to
have her as our Volunteer C o
ordinator to help us recruit oth
er volunteers and deliver serv
ices to clients. Linda and our
other volunteers have joined in
the history of C olum bia County
W om en’s Resource C enter in
that C C W R C was established
by com m unity volunteers to a s
sist victim s of dom estic and
sexual violence and people fac
ing other crisis in their lives.
And it does not stop there, a
local com pany, Sem ling C on
struction, Inc. then cam e in and
donated the ir services to build
a retaining wall, haul fill dirt,
level and grade the site. They
gave us m any man hours to en
sure that we w ere able to have
an area w here a playground
could be built. Mark and Dave,
and the ir crew cleared an area
that w as overgrow n and un
even. Due to S em ling C o n
stru ction’s enorm ous donation
and the generosity of the folks
at A rm strong W orld Industries,
on July 2 1 ,2 0 0 3 , we will have a
new playground. The plant will
be w orking together that day to
give our children a safe place to
play.

bricks w ill be engraved only
bricks once a year, in S eptem
