The Vernonia Senior Spelling Bee once again hosted a group of citizens willing to compete
against each other just for the fun of it. This year’s winners, pictured above from left, are first
place winner Tobie Finzel, second place Bob Eastman and Ruth Bell in third place.
It has been sort of hot of late, yes? I've
been walking early in the morning lately.
There are quite a few fishermen out early
also. I met a miniature Greyhound the other
morning - what a treat, I have never heard of
one. It was perfect in every detail - such
grace when it ran.
Hello - if you missed attending the last
performance of the 7 & 8 Grade Drama
group, you were the loser. “The Paper Bag
Bandit Rides Again” was preceded by a Vaudeville Show and sev
eral skits - no Can-Can Dancers - the cast and crew did an ex
cellent job. It took me back to my Junior High acting career, which
culminated in High School with the Operetta “A Mid Summer
Nights Dream” (The Donkey Serenade) Ahh - youth.
Gee Whiz, I saw something Tuesday morning at 8:30 as I left
town that I’ve not seen since moving here in July of ‘86. A train
crossing over Highway 47. I’ve been under the trestle scads of
times at that time of day. Where does it go? How often does it run?
Being a Railroad Brat, it gave my nostalgia button a jolt.
Graduation is over - Congratulations to the Seniors.
But - what about all the other students who hung in there all
year, who got through another year without so much as a High
5???
From Kindergarten through Juniors in High School, it’s a hard
job and they are our future. Congratulations to all of you. Keep
your eye on the prize. Get from where you are to where you aim
to be. Hang in there Andy, Preston, Cody and John at VCA.
