Special event to initiate bridge project
A special event celebrating
the start of the Lewis and Clark
Bridge deck replacement proj­
ect is scheduled for 3:00 to
4:00 p.m. Monday, March 10, at
the Port of Longview.
In addition to speakers from
both sides of the Columbia Riv­
er, the event will feature inter­
active displays and light re­
freshments. Attendees will
have time to socialize and view
the displays until 3:30, at which
time the program will begin. .
Speakers will include Wash­
ington State Department of
Transportation Secretary Doug
MacDonald and Southwest Re­
gion Administrator Don Wagn­
er, Oregon Departm ent of
Transportation Regional Direc­
tor Kay Van Sickle and Rainier
business owner and Port of
Longview Commission Presi­
dent Larry Larson.
The cooperative nature of
the project involving Washing­
ton and Oregon, Longview, Kel­
so and Rainier, will be high­
lighted. Other topics will include
the emergency medical heli-
copter transport service, the
project’s closure schedule, the
communications plan, the eco­
nomic benefits of the project to
the Longview, Kelso and Rai­
nier areas and a request from
Rainier business owners to
their Longview customers to
keep visiting their side of the
bridge during construction. The

B-V trail cleanup day set for March 22

work in Oregon, you are invited
to attend the Vernonia Area
Chamber of Commerce meet­
ing Wednesday, March 12 at
noon, at Lew’s Place. A guest
speaker will discuss Oregon’s
regulations and how they differ
from other states.
The chamber has planned a
cleanup day on the Banks-Ver­
nonia Linear Trail for Saturday,
March 22. The Cham ber is
adopting four miles of trail, from
Anderson Park south. At this

events. The no-host luncheon
meetings are held in the ban­
quet room at Lew’s. Meetings
start at 12 Noon and are usual­
ly over by 1:15 p.m. so mem­
bers can return to work.
