Head Start nearing the end of
another terrific school year
Head Start has had another
terrific school year. The chil
dren have had wonderful op
portunities to explore the class
room, attend field trips and
learn new skills. Parents have
volunteered in the classroom,
helped on field trips, worked in
the kitchen and many other
projects. Other volunteers have
included parents from the com
munity and students from the
Jr. High and High School. Their
strong support is greatly appre
ciated.
Head Start provides a com
prehensive approach to educa
tion which enables children to
develop skills for school readi
ness. Families receive educa
tional and social home visits
with staff through the year. Chil
dren receive hearing, vision
and developmental screenings.
They receive medical and den
tal care and two USDA ap
proved meals a day.
The program is open to all
children, regardless of race,
sex, creed, nationality or dis
abling condition.
Applications for the 2003-
2004 school year are available
at 500 California Ave., or call
429-9243 for more information.
The Head Start building is
also available for public use.
Many organizations are cur
rently using the building, includ
ing Nehalem Valley Bible
Church, Alcoholics Anony
mous, Early Intervention, Liz
W hite's pre-school Spanish
