Even though our Sadie
Hawkins Day competed with
the weather, two high school
programs, the Blazers and a
tae kwondo lesson, or if you
just stayed home to keep
warm, the stew was awesome,
the music was, as always,
good. Thank you, Golden
Oldies. The Gypsy said, “There
was no Vanna White, but the
prizes tasted good.” Broom Hil
da showed up and one gent
took a chance and danced with
her.
Many thank yous to the fol
lowing folks for helping to make
it a success - donating prizes -

Do you want to have a voice
in the Senior Center in 2003?
Here’s how to make your wish

November Business Meet

December Business Meet

Please become interested
and involved in your Senior
Center.
Forgive me for mentioning
this, but we could use some
help with our planned Thanks
giving Dinner - Noon on No
vember 22. Come in, sign up
for dinner or sign up to help
serve or to donate a pie. If you
have a spare turkey, we would
appreciate that also. Jamie will
cook it. Thank you, in advance.
I’m in shock again, so I will
try and explain what the Senior
Center in Vernonia is all about
and how anyone can avail
themselves of our friendship
and services offered.
#1. The name does not
mean its only for Seniors (55
years and older), it is because
that’s the people that, so to
speak, run the business.
#2. You can be pink, white,
black or green. Color, nationali
ty or age is not an issue. Your
pocketbook is not an issue in
the dining room or the thrift
store.
To have a voice (one vote),
be 50 years of age and pay
yearly dues of $10.00.
#3. Anyone can come and
visit, shop, eat Monday through
Friday. You can take advantage
of the bread, etc. Wednesday
and Saturday. It is a donation-
only expense.
Want a place to sit and sip
coffee? We've a TV area and,
honest, none of us bite.
Come in, introduce yourself.
We’ve even got a jig saw puz
zle going all the time.
Thursday afternoons, bring
in your friends. It’s game day, if
you can get up a two or four
some. Cribbage, pinochle,
even Mexican train (we've got
the cards, etc., just no people).
See you in two weeks in
print.
P.S. Does anyone around
Vernonia have fresh rabbit
meat to sell? I’m interested in
acquiring some.
One more thing I have to
say, but I must change hats
here and I am dead serious.
Are you going to have a full,
well-rounded Christmas dinner
this year? Candied sweet pota
toes, cranberry sauce, olives,
stuffed celery, potatoes and
turkey gravy, hot dinner rolls,
pumpkin pie and a golden
brown turkey with leftovers? I
pray that you are. And now, did
you know that the folks who
count on Vernonia Cares may
not be lucky enough to have a
turkey in their baskets, or even
if they will have a basket. In Oc
tober, we served 95 families.
Last year, 100 baskets were
used at Christmas. This year,
we figure we will need 150 to
be sure we can meet the need.
We can use money dona
tions or 10 to 20 pound frozen
turkeys. You can receive a tax
deduction, if you wish.
To make your Christmas a
blessing, buy two birds, one for
you and the other for a friend in
need. Take it to Vernonia Cares
by December 10. They will be
much appreciated.
