Obituary
ELLEN M. GILES
Ellen M axie G iles, 55, F orest
Grove, died June 24, 2002. A m em orial
service was held June 24 at the Forest
Grove Spanish Seventh-day Adventist
Church.
Mrs. G iles was born O ctober 16,
1946, in Huntington Station, N.Y., to
Stanley and C arolyn Tworzyanski. She
graduated from high school in Indio,
Calif.
In 1971, she m arried David Giles.
They pastored the Forest G rove Sev­
enth-day Adventist C hurch after serving
in California, Bella Coola and Clan-
brook, British C olum bia, Canada.
She w orked as a ca re g ive r for
handicapped people.
Survivors include her husband; two
sons, T im o th y of T um blex R idge,
British C olum bia, and M atthew of Ver­
nonia; her father of Kamisk, Idaho; a
brother, Dean Tworzyanski of Chehalis,
Wash.; two sisters, Caren Loepeh of
Spokane, W ash., and Bonnie Harter of
Veridale, W ash.; nieces and nephews.

HOWARD G. JO N ES
Howard Gale Jones, 85, Birkenfeld,
died July 18, 2002. Services were held
July 23 at H aakinson-G roulx Chapel in
Clatskanie, with Tom Holce officiating,
assisted by the Rev. Pasty Sturdevant.
Interm ent was at River Abbey M au­
soleum in Portland.
Mr. Jones was born N ovem ber 13,
1916, in Deer Lodge, M ontana, to Hugh
March and Aura Estella Dolphin Jones.
They moved to Vancouver, W ash., and
then to Birkenfeld. He graduated from
W inem a High School in Birkenfeld in
1936.
In 1941, he m arried Irene Holce. He
worked in the tim ber industry with W il­
fred Holce, then he and Boone John­
ston started Allied Logging C om pany in
1942.
He served in the U.S. Navy in Bre­
merton, W ash., from 1944 to 1945. In
1956, Allied Logging m erged w ith J & H
Lum ber and becam e Allied J & H Lum ­
ber Company. In 1971, they sold the
mill to O lym pic Forest Products and
managed it until 1982 He m anaged
Banks Lum ber Co. until he retired in
1988.
Mr. Jones was a life m em ber of C lat­
skanie M asonic Lodge #133 AF&AM ,
York Rite of Portland, Royal Arch Ma-
sons-Forest G rove, Al Kadar Shrine
Temple, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley o,
Portland, Past Patron at W abanang
Chapter O E S#127 and served on the
Birkenfeld and Vernonia school boards.
He was preceded in death by four
brothers and seven sisters.

JO SEPH IN E L. LIGMAN
Josephine L. Ligman, 87, Portland,
died July 15, 2002. Memorial services
and crem ation have taken place.
Miss Ligman was born February 10,
1915, in Chicago, III., to Charles and
V icto ria B ugdorow icz Ligm an. She
grew up in Chicago and at age 16,
joined a convent and became a nun.
She served as a m issionary in A r­
gentina, England and A ustralia. In
1970, she m oved to Portland.
In her 60s, she returned to college
and earned a certificate as a licensed
practical nurse. She w orked in home
health nursing and retired at 73.
Miss Ligman was preceded in death
by three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her adopted fam i­
ly, Ed and M aureen Polich of Banks;
four grandchildren; five great-grandchil­
dren.

W ILFO RD J. DAVIS
W ilford Jack Davis, 71, Tigard, died
July 13, 2002. Funeral services were
held July 20, at Donelson, Sewell and
M athews M ortuary in Hillsboro, with the
Rev. C. Eugene Sabin, officiating. In­
urnm ent was in Fir Lawn Cem etery in
Hillsboro.
Mr. Davis was born April 3, 1931, in
Rainier, to W ilford Jack and Mary Den­
im Davis Sr. He grew up in Washington
C ounty
He owned and operated a barber
shop in North Plains and worked as a
supervisor for Gray and Company.
In 1981, he married C atherine An­
derson. They lived in Tigard.
Mr. Davis was a m em ber of the
H illsboro Moose Lodge, H illsboro Elks
Club and Molalla Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; three
sons, Curtis B. of Vernonia, Duane of
Aloha, Darin L. of Hillsboro; a stepson,
Bruce A nderson of H illsboro; three
stepdaughters, Patricia Fike of Anchor-

SHARON J. MEDEIROS
Sharon J. M edeiros, 54, Banks,
died July 19, 2002. A m emorial service
was held July 27 in M cCready Hall at
Pacific University in Forest Grove.
Mrs. M edeiros was born January
20, 1948, in Maui, Hawaii. She gradu­
ated from Annie W right High School in
Tacoma, Wash, and earned a B.A. in
English from California W estern Uni­
versity in 1970.
In 1971, she married John Me­
deiros. They lived in Iowa City, Iowa.
She taught high school until 1977. In
1979, she m oved to the Bay Area in
California, and in 1989 to Banks.
She volunteered at Banks High
School, Jesuit High School and Meals-
on-W heels. In 1992, she became m an­
aging editor for the Journal o f M anual
and M anipulative Therapy, which she
and her husband operated.
Survivors include her husband; two
sons, Matthew and David; her mother;
three brothers, William, Kevin and Bri­
an.

KATHLEEN A. MCINTIRE
Kathleen Alice McIntire, 52, M cM in­
nville, died July 22, 2002. Funeral ser­
vices were held July 27 at Fuiten Rose
& Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove,
with Rev. C. Eugene Sabin, officiating.
Private interm ent was held.
Mrs. M cIntire was born December
25, 1949, in San Pedro, California, to
Frank and Alice Garrett Youngblood.
She lived in California and moved to
Timber when she was 15. In 1996, she
moved to Forest Grove, and in 2000, to
Newberg and Yamhill She helped at
the family business, the Tim ber Inn, in
Timber.
She was preceded in death by her
parents.
Survivors include two sons, Mike
Youngblood of Oregon City and David

The family of Howard Jones ex­
tends our deep appreciation for the
support extended to us during
Howard's illness, his memorial service
and at the luncheon gathering follow­
ing the service. The flowers, cards and
memorials mean so much to us, and
the food and welcoming at the Mason­
ic Lodge was so thoughtful and such a
special time for us. Thank you espe­
cially to the Mist Birkenfeld Fire Dis­
trict, the Mist Helping Circle, the Ma­
sonic Lodge and Wabanag Chapter

HUBERT A. SUPPE
Hubert Arthur Suppe, 86, Seaside,
died July 26, 2002. Services will be
held at a later date.
Mr. Suppe was born Septem ber 2,
1915, in Portland, to Karl and Grace
Kauffman Suppe. He attended school
in Portland and C am as, W ash. He
served in the U.S. M arine Corps from
1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific. After
his discharge, he logged in the N orth­
west for Ken Wrenn Logging, Ed W il­
son Logging and retired from Crown
Zellerbach.
In 1949, he married Gladys Powers.
They lived in the Jewell area.
He was preceded in death by a son,
H ubert; and a great-granddaughter,
Sam antha Dawn Robins.

Lowrie Richard Kelly, 88, Condon,
died July 17. 2002 Funeral services
were held at the United C hurch of
Christ in Condon. Interm ent was in the
Condon Cemetery.
Mr. Kelly was born August 3, 1913,
in Marmarth, N.D., to M arretta Alexan­
der Kelly. He attended grade school in
M ontana and, at 14, m oved to Tacoma,
Wash., where he attended Stadium
High School. He w orked in a cheese
factory and served in the U.S. Navy. He
served as plant m anager at Arm co
Steel in Seattle, Tacoma, Portland and
Hillsboro. Pipe for the Alaska pipeline
was made at the Hillsboro plant, under
his supervision.
He was a m em ber of the Hillsboro
Elks Lodge and Tacom a M asons,
served as president of the Hillsboro
C am per Club and w as one of the
founders of the Trailer Hoppers, Inc. in
Vernonia. He w as active in the Boys
Hom e in Tacoma and raised a foster
boy, Rusty.
Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by
a son, Bob, in 1999.
Survivors include his wife; tw o sons,
Ken, and Randy Anderson of Condon;
11 grandchildren; seven great great­
grandchildren.

GLENN E. DAWSON
G lenn Eugene Dawson, 77, Beaver­
ton, died July 11, 2002. Services were
July 16 at Finley’s Sunset Hills M ortu­
ary in Portland. Interm ent was in S un­
set Hills Cemetery, with honors by the
Navy H onor Guard.
Mr. Dawson was born July 6, 1925,
in Lincoln, Neb., to Glenn Rexford and
Beulah Marie Dawson. He m oved to
C anby and Hillsboro, where he gradu­
ated from H illsboro High School.
He w orked a, the Navy shipyards in
Portland until entering the U.S Navy
during W orld W ar II. He served as a
radar m an aboard the USS Hornet.
Mr. Dawson earned a m aster's de­
gree from Pacific U niversity and attend­
ed the U niversity of Arizona.
In 1970, he m arried Rebecca Jane
Gregory. He w orked at Banks Grade
School and becam e superintendent
and principal of C edar Mill School D is­
trict. He was principal a, W hitford J u ­
nior High School and M eadow Park Ju­
nior High School. A fter retiring, he was
a real estate sales associate in partner­
ship with his wife.
Mr. Dawson w as a m em ber of the
H illsboro Elks Lodge, the M asons and
the Episcopal Church. He was an origi­
nal board m em ber of the Tualatin Hills
Park and R ecrea tio n D istrict and
served as a com m issioner on the W olf
Creek W ater Board.
He w as preceded in death by two
brothers, Jack R. and Jam es A.
Survivors include his wife; five sons,
M ichael of Sum ner, W ash., Gregory,
Kenneth and W illiam , all of Beaverton,
and Stephen of Sarasota, Fla.; ten
grandchildren; one great grandchild; a
sister, Elizabeth Ann Bishop of Sal,
Lake City, Utah; nieces and nephews.
