Good guys to the rescue!
It was early on a cold, cold
day and the weather threat
ened to make it a long day, too,
for line crews, but West Oregon
Electric Cooperative em ploy
ees said, “Sure, w e’ll see what
we can do” about getting a fam
ily cat out of a tall fir tree.
The one-year-old cat had
been stuck in the tree for three
days and her owners (if cats
truly have owners), Amber and
Doug Dahl, 6-year-old Sarah,
13-year-old Jessica and grand
ma Vivian Skaggs were getting
very worried.
W hen A m ber Dahl ap
proached W OEC operations
n
manager Steve Hursh, he gave
the okay to talk to the linemen.
Gary Gulleckson and Gunny
Cox agreed to help and
stopped at the Dahl home on
Cherry Street before heading
out on the job.
Gulleckson ran the rescue,
going high into the tree in the
bucket of a lift truck, grabbed
the cat and brought her down.
The job was done before 8:00
a.m. and Grandma was very re
lieved.
“People like to com plain
about West Oregon,” Amber
Dahl said, “ I think they should
be thanked publicly, too.”

Left, Gary Gulleckson maneuvers himself
into position to grab a frightened kitten. He
and Gunny Cox are pleased with the results,
Daisy, the cat, was happy to get down, too.
