derous people in our midst.
Being the redneck that I am,
my first thought of how to deal
with these people is to bring
back an old tradition that would
have coincided in the days of
the KKK - tar and feathers! But,
being the civil person I am, I will
have to deal with this matter in
a legal way. So, be warned.
When I find out who you are,
and I will, you will get a piece of
my mind. I would ask all Ver-
nonians to do the same, for
these people have gone out of
their way to attack the very soul

of our community without just
cause.
I guess, now, the headline in
the Daily Astorian is correct,
because I am upset, not that a
piece of history was listed in a
kiosk, but because of the attack
on my community and on good,
upstanding citizens who work
hard to make Vernonia a better
place to live. Of course we will
never see our attackers raise a
single finger for the community
good. It just isn’t in them!
Proud to be a Vernonian.

“Heart Pockets” a special
project to honor Valentine’s
Day will be presented by the
Vernonia Society of Arts and
Crafts. Beginning at 6:00 p.m.
on Wednesday, February 6, in
the meeting room of the Ver
nonia Public Library, Kellie Mur
ray will introduce participants to
this delightful project and guide
through the creative fun.
The public is invited to par
ticipate. There will be a small
fee for materials.
Each Wednesday in 2002,
except those set aside for spe
cial programs, the Society ex
pects to hold a work afternoon
at the Library. Members will
bring art or craft projects to be
worked on throughout the after
noon. Everyone is invited to
join and/or join in.
The Society tries to have
many different materials and
projects for all to experience.
Am ong the types of work
presently in progress are rug
hooking; pastels, both chalk
and oil; painting with water col
ors; and counted cross stitch.
The Society is looking for
additional projects with leaders
for presentation as special pro
grams. If you know of anyone
who works in such areas as
“ huck
w eaving,” “Swedish
weaving,” china painting, flower
arranging, jewelry, or if you can
suggest a possible leader in
those and other crafts or arts,
call Barb at 429-6696, or April
at 429-3861. If you have a craft
or art in which you are interest
ed, call about that, too.
In addition to the Wednes
day workshops, the business
meeting of the Vernonia Soci
ety of Arts and Crafts is held on
the second Thursday of each
month, at 2:00 p.m. in the Li
brary Meeting Room. This is
usually preceded by a lun
cheon get-together at the New
Hong Kong at 12:30 p.m. The
public is invited to attend either
or both of these.
