Ridgeriders prepare for another year

The Vernonia Ridgeriders, a
non-profit, family-based saddle
club for over 40 years, has
completed activities for 2001,
which was dedicated to youth
in the club and the community.
Young people are an important
part of the Vernonia Ridgerid­
ers, constituting about 50 per­
cent of the membership. This
year, they were the flag bearers
in parades and provided the
opening ceremonies for the
club’s annual gaming competi­
tions.
The Vernonia High School
Equestrian Team, coached by
Faulty insulator causes power
outage to large area of WOEC
at 12:50 a.m., Timber and Elsie
at 2:40 a.m.
BPA replaced the insulator
on Monday and the system was
returned to its usual configura­
tion.
On November 20, during a
rain and wind storm, a fallen
tree west of Birkenfeld cut off
power to WOEC customers in
the Mist, Jewell and Birkenfeld
areas at 11:15 a.m. The outage
was slightly more than an hour
long.
Power outages in the Ver­
nonia, Timber and Elsie areas,
early Monday, were caused by
a faulty insulator on a switch at
the Bonneville Power Adminis­
tration’s Timber Substation.
The failed insulator interrupt­
ed service to the West Oregon
Electric Cooperative substation
at Timber, at 12:15 a.m. Mon­
day. WOEC responded by re­
versing the BPA feed from the
Timber line to the Warren line,
bringing Vernonia back on line

Habitat for Humanity
announces winner
of rose arbor
The winners of a Rose Ar­
bor, built and donated to Co­
lumbia County Habitat for Hu­
manity (CCHfH) were Roy and
Holly Barbar of Scappoose.
The arbor raffle raised over
$650. for CCHfH. President
Boyd Ruby drew the winning
ticket after the Sauerkraut Fes­
tival in Scappoose.
Tickets for the raffle were
sold at Rainier Days, The Co­
lumbia County Fair, Claskanie
Heritage Days, The Vernonia
Friendship Jamboree and the
Scappoose Sauerkraut Festi­
