Obituary
NANCY B. SADLER
Nancy Byers Sadler, 82, Forest
Grove, died November 2, 2001. A pri
vate graveside service was held No
vember 5 in Riverview Cemetery in
Portland, with the Rev. Brian Shimer of
the Banks Community United Metho
dist Church, officiating.
Mrs. Sadler was born January 14,
1919, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Edgar S.
and Birja Wilkins Byers. She grew up in
Cleveland.
In 1941, she married Kenneth B.
Sadler. They lived in Cleveland until
1963, when they moved to Lake Os
wego. In 1998, she moved to Beaver
ton and in 1999 she moved to Forest
Grove.
She worked as a sales representa
tive and women’s clothing model for
Hallie Brothers in Cleveland.
Mrs. Sadler was a member of the
Portland Symphony Auxiliary and the
Lake Oswego Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her
husband in 1998; and her sister.
Survivors include two daughters,
Ellen N. Sadler of Banks, and Jennifer
L. Sadler of Portland; three sons, Rus
sell K. Sadler of Portland, and Kenneth
B. Sadler, Jr. and Timothy E. Sadler,
both of Hyannis, Mass.; one sister, Bar
bara McBryde of Montgomery, Ala.;
three grandchildren; nieces and
nephews.

H. EDWARD “ED” BERG
Herbert Edward “Ed" Berg, 81, Jew
ell, died October 28, 2001. A celebra
tion of his life was held November 3 in
Jewell.
Mr. Berg was born October 19,
1920, in Fossil, to Herbert and Edna
Grover Berg. He graduated from Sea
side High School and attended Oregon
State University until entering the U.S.
Army Air Corps. After World War II, he
worked for Crown Zellerbach as a log
scaler. From 1952 to 1962, he owned
Pacific Hardware. He then worked as a
sales manager for Ernie Garcia Ford.
In 1981, he married JoAnn Forres
ter. They built Faraway Farms, which
they managed until 1994, when they re
tired to Jewell.
He was preceded in death by a
stepson, Jerry Brown, in 1994.
Survivors include his wife; two
daughters, Janis Olstedt of Jewell, and
Cathy Coleman of Molalla; three step
sons, Jeff Brown of Warrenton, Steve
Brown of Oregon City, and Scott Brown
of Astoria; a stepdaughter, Sally Brown
of Portland; 12 grandchildren and sev
en great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shirk was bom September 8,
1925, in Lexington, Okla., to Virgil
Glenn and Mary Jane Burton Glenn
Smith. She grew up in Shafter, Calif.
She attended nursing school in Long
Beach, Calif.
In 1949, she married Lorenzo B.
Shirk, Jr. They lived in Gaston and
Banks before moving to Forest Grove
in 1952.
Survivors include her husband; a
son, Larry J. of LaPine; a daughter,
Carol A. Gray of LaPine; a foster son,
Gary Losey of Gaston; a foster daugh
ter, Carolyn Losey Christenson of San
Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren; six
foster grandchildren; nine great grand
children; three brothers, Dear! Glenn of
Chula Vista, Calif., Earl Glenn of Bak
ersfield, Calif., and Charlie Glenn of
Porterville, Calif.; a sister, Cathryn Wil
son of Forest Grove; and numerous
nieces and nephews.

CONNIE DAVIS
Connie R. Caldwell Davis, 53, Man
ning, died November 7, 2001. Funeral
services were held November 10 at
Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home in Hills
boro. Entombment was in Valley
Memorial Park Mausoleum in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Davis was bom April 11, 1948,
in Portland to Robert Gordon and Ina
Margaret Moser Caldwell. She grew up
in Tigard. She attended Oregon State
University for a year and took classes
at Portland Community College.
In 1983, she married Randy Davis.
They sold flowers at the Hillsboro
Farmer's Market every season since
the market opened 11 years ago. She
worked in the Medical Records Depart
ment at Providence St. Vincent Hospi
tal. She retired in September.
Survivors include her husband; a
daughter, Karma Lotina of Aloha; a
step-daughter, Summer Davis of
Salem; one grandchild; her mother, Ina
M. Walker of Hillsboro; and a brother,
Robert Gordon Caldwell, Jr. of Forest
Grove.
