Whitehead takes 2001 County and 2001 Jamboree Logging titles
For the fourth consecutive
year, Scott Whitehead of
Tillamook captured the title of
Vernonia All-Around Logger at
the Vernonia Jamboree Log
ging Show. Whitehead scored
a total of 20 points.
This year, however, he
added the title of Columbia
County Logger of the Year by
accumulating 77 points in log
ging shows at Clatskanie,
Rainier, Columbia County Fair
and Vernonia.
Gregg Brewer, of Clatska
nie, placed second in the race
for the county title, followed by
Matt Samuelson of Astoria.
Kennedy Ragsdale was
chosen by the logging show
judges and timers for the Max
Sword Memorial Award for
sportsmanship.

1. Scott Whitehead accepts a new chain saw, for earning the county title, from Logging Show
Chairman Bill Woolsey. Triple S Saw Shop of Vernonia donated the prize.
2. Jeff Skirvin and a partner demonstrate a saw that can slice through a 30” log in 1.5 sec
onds.
3. Kennedy Ragsdale was named recipient of the sportsmanship award named for the late
Max Sword.
4. Ragsdale was the only contestant to fall a 40’ pole right on top of a beer can.
5. Matt Samuelson made the sawdust fly in unlimited bucking.
6. Pole Walk and Snip requires a combination of balance and speed.
7. Kids’ choker setting may not be skillful, but they work hard at the task.
