Area loggers display skillful action at Vernonia Logging Show
Logging show contestants
will be tested on their accuracy,
speed and agility in the various
contests of the Jamboree Log
ging show on Sunday, Aug. 5 at
12:00 noon in Hawkins Park.
Most of the participants are
professional loggers.
Events include bucking with
working saws 4-5 cu. and 5-6
cu., unlimited saws, women’s
bucking, pole falling, steeple
chase , pole walk and snip and
choker setting.
Kids participate in the Log
ging Show as well, in the kid’s
choker setting event, and their
own ax throw competition.
After a hot competition, the
participants try the water
events: pole walk, boom stick
run and burling, all on (and
sometimes in) Rock Creek.
Veteran field announcer
Pete Peters will be assisted by
booth announcer Bill Woolsey.
Registration will be from
10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Caulk
boots are required and contest
ants operating power saws
must wear chaps as well.

It takes a large and dedicated crew to handle the organization and operation of a logging show. This crew did the job for
the 2000 Vernonia Jamboree Logging Show and most of them will return in 2001. Many of those pictured have volunteered
their efforts repeatedly over the years, not just in Vernonia, but at logging shows all around the county.
