Expanded menu at Leonetti’s will feature Italian dinners and more
Aaron McCowan grew up in
Pennsylvania, cooking and
hammering nails. “I knew that I
wanted a trade that would let
me work anywhere,” he said,
“so I learned both cooking and
carpentry.”
McCowan got to Vernonia
from Pennsylvania by way of
Alaska (On his way to Alaska,
he worked for 15 years in a
Greek-owned restaurant that
specialized in Mediterranean
foods.). For the past three
years, he has owned a restau
rant in Haines.
“I never thought I’d leave
Alaska,” he said, but he came
to visit a friend in Vernonia and
was so pleased with the area
that he is now in the process of
selling his restaurant and is
employed here by Leonetti’s
Pizza & Grill.
With the addition of McCow
an, who makes such delicacies
as calzone and also bakes
bread, Mario and Nan Leonetti
are planning to expand both
their hours and their menu.
Starting July second, Leo
netti’s will be open for dinner
Monday through Saturday, 5-
8:00 p.m., with an Italian menu
plus “dinner around the world,”
with the cuisine of a different
country each night.
There will be 17 new menu
items, Mario Leonetti said, both
sandwiches and dinners. Com
ing up soon will be fresh bread,
which they plan to have both
for restaurant use and for retail
sales.
