Students will “Run for the Arts”
Students at Vernonia and
Mist grade schools are joining
many Oregon schools to take
advantage of Young Audiences
“Run for the Arts,” an activity
that raises funds for arts in the
schools.
A Run/Walk will take place
at Lincoln and Mist School on
Thursday, April 26, and at
Washington Grade School on
Friday, April 27, during Turn Off
the TV Week. Kindergarten
through sixth grade students
will be involved in the run and
walk, with each class sched
uled for a specific 30-minute
time period. When the sched
ule is set, it will be sent home
with students.
The schools hope to raise
funds for art supplies, a field
trip to an arts event and/or and
a performance or special as
sembly. Some students will
seek pledges as part of the
fund raiser. There will also be
prizes and awards for partici
pants.
Parents, grandparents and
friends are also encouraged to
participate. For further informa

On Monday, April 23, at the
Scout Cabin in Vernonia, a va
riety of exchange students will
be bringing a little bit of their
homeland to share with you.
ASSE International Exchange
Program will provide cookies,
punch and a warm evening of
international fellowship. In ad
dition to the six foreign ex
change students currently en
rolled in Vernonia High School,
there will be several others
from surrounding areas.
There will be opportunity to
chat with students and see
memorabilia from far away
places such as Japan, Italy,
Germany, The Czech Republic,
Ukraine, Holland, Denmark, as
well as our nearest neighbor,
Canada. English is spoken by
all of the students, or they
would be happy to exchange
pleasantries in their native
tongues.
All family members are wel
come. This is NOT a fundrais
er, it is an informational eve
ning. Dress is casual and those
plan to attend are asked to
bring nothing but international
good will to have an enjoyable
evening in Vernonia.
