C. Janie Wise, 91, Vancouver, died
November 15, 2000. Funeral services
were held November 20 at Fuiten,
Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest
Grove, with Reverend Tolbert Lovelady
of the River of Life Fellowship in Sea­
side, officiating. Interment was at the
Buxton Cemetery.
Mrs. W ise was born August 3,
1909, near Quinlan, Texas, to William
and Mary (Carter) Carnley. She was
raised in Texas.
She married Hershel C. Wise in
1928 in Baileyboro, Texas. They lived
in Texas until 1942, when they moved
to Vancouver, Washington. In 1945,
they moved to Buxton. She also lived
In Montana.
During World War II, she worked in
the Vancouver shipyards.
Mrs. Wise was a member of the
Buxton Assembly of God church.
She was preceded in death by her
husband in 1970; five brothers. Leo­
nard, William and Grady Carnley, and
Ben and Lee Davis; eight sisters, Vada
May Welsh, Velma Luttrel, Dora Fine,
Evelyn King, Ruby Lovelady, Leona
Carnley, Mary L. Lovelady and Army-

Joanna M. Chandler, 43, Vernonia,
died November 15, 2000. Celebration
of Life Service was held November 20,
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ver­
nonia. Private interment was held.
Ms. Chandler was born July 6,
1957, in the Bronx, New York, to
Michael and Elizabeth A. (Connor) Di-
Pasquale. She was raised in Suffern,
New York. She trained in Medical As­
sistance at Peninsula College in Port
Angeles, Washington, where she lived
until moving to Vernonia in 1995.
Survivors include her companion,
Marvin D. Dennis of Vernonia; five chil­
dren, Jessica M. of Gresham, Aimed
M. of Walla Walla, Washington, Mat­
thew C. Elliott, Robin M. Elliott and
Jayden Q. E. Dennis, all of Vernonia;
her father, Michael DiPasquale of Sun
City, Arizona; her mother, Elizabeth
Boivin of H illsboro; three sisters,
Suzanne Nunemaker of Hi-Nella, New
Jersey, Dianne Smith of Port Angeles
and Anne Geier of Mahwah, New Jer­
sey; three grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews.
Remembrances are suggested to
the Joanna M. Chandler Memorial

Mercedes I. Glick, 80, died Novem­
ber 20, 2000. No services were held.

Disposition was by cremation.
Mrs. Glick was born March 19,
1920, in Buffalo, Wyo. Her maiden
name was Churchill. She was raised
on a homestead near Buffalo and on a
farm outside Sandpoint, Idaho. She
married Clarence Glick in 1937; he
died in 1991. She moved to Portland
in the early 1960s and managed hotels
with her husband. She also worked in
cafes in Mist and Jewell.
Survivors include two sons, Cass
and Christian E.; two daughters, Can-
die Bennett and Sandra St. John; two
brothers, James F. and Lee A.
Churchill; three sisters, Mildred Need­
ham, Lucille Melvin and Grace Stueve;
three grandchildren; one great grand­
child.

1) Notice is hereby given that the Board of
County Commissioners for Columbia
County will hold a public hearing on
Wednesday, December 20, 2000, at or af­
ter 10:00 a.m. in the Commissioners' Meet­
ing Room, Room 308 of the Columbia
County Courthouse in St. Helens, Oregon.
2) The purpose of this hearing is to solicit
public input regarding the applications for
renewal of ambulance service franchises,
and the Ambulance Service Administrator’s
recommendations regarding the applica­
tions for the ambulance service areas two
through seven within Columbia County.
3) The hearing is open to the public and all
interested persons may appear and be
heard. The Commissioners’ Meeting Room
is accessible to the handicapped. If you are

DOROTHY MAY O’NEAL
Dorothy May O'Neal, 71, Gering, Ne­
braska, died November 25, 2000. Services
were held November 30 at the First United
Methodist Church in Scottsbluff, Neb., with
the Rev. Wayne Alloway officiating. Inter­
ment was at West Lawn Cemetery in Ger­
ing.
Mrs. O'Neal was born May 21,1929, in
Vernonia to Artemus and Maggie (Cooley)
DeHart. She graduated from Vernonia High
School in 1947 and immediately went to
work at West Oregon Electric Cooperative.
In 1948, she married Merle W. Roland.
They lived in Sioux County, Nebraska, until
1969, when they moved to Scottsbluff, Ne­
braska. She married H. Richard O’Neal in
1976. They lived in Gering.
She worked in the media center for
Scottsbluff Public Schools, at Regional
West Medical Center in home health, and
at Total Landscape Center.
Mrs. O’Neal was a member of the
church, the Trails West Iris Society and the
Moose Lodge Auxiliary. She was also a
Master Gardener.
She was preceded in death by two
brothers and a great-granddaughter.
Survivors include her husband; sons,
Rodney W Roland of Pueblo, Colo., and
Gene A. Roland of Gering; daughter,
Denise A Reynoldson of Minatare, Neb.;
stepsons, Mark A. O’Neal of Lakewood,
Colo., and Tracy L. O’Neal of Gering; sis­
ters, Otha Ekegren of Bandon, Betty Meier
of Tacoma, Wash., and Tempie Nance of
Vernonia; brothers, Mitchell DeHart of
Seattle, David DeHart of Portland and
Lester DeHart of Sheridan; 10 grandchil­
dren; four great-grandchildren; numerous
nieces and nephews.
Remembrances are suggest to the
