When my kids were little, I’d
dress them in garage-sale
attire. To this day, I’ll brake for
one. Just ask the lady who
wondered why I was racing up
to her front porch to rummage
through her clothes as she
happened to hang them out to
dry!
Did you enjoy Vernonia’s
Community Garage Sale? I’ve
heard reports of many people
doing well. The Senior Center
did well, thank you. A special

thanks to Willie Brewer, Jac
queline Ramsay, Fyme Taylor
and Lorraine Parce for running
the garage sale, and to Brian
Quaschnick for setting up and
tearing down our sale. The
ladies couldn’t have done it
without you!
There is still time to buy tick
ets for Nellie Tipton’s quilt.
Ticket sales have picked up
lately and the drawing is not
until the last day of the Christ
mas Bazaar.
The city council held a
meeting
to
seek
information/questions about
building a new senior center
and assisted living facility in
Vernonia. There was some
mix-up about the time, but a
good crowd was on hand.
Comments and questions
were reasonable and thought-
provoking. Keep an eye on this
issue...
We are trying to organize a
fall clean-up day for seniors.
Rejoice!

This will entail raking leaves,
cleaning gutters, putting plas
tic on windows, and chopping
firewood. If your are a senior
who needs any of these servic
es, or if you are a volunteer
willing to give up a Saturday to
help, please call 429-9112. If
Senior Advocate Candy Olson
doesn’t answer personally,
voice mail wili record your
message, it will not be heard
on the intercom.
We are also trying to
acquire firewood for seniors at
reduced cost, or free to needy
seniors. At this time, we are
not sure if we can do it, but we
will try.
It has come to my attention
that someone has been “div
ing” in our dumpster. A word to
the wise: We put smelly stuff in
there, and broken glass and
dirty things. Please stay out of
our dumpster, we give no one
permission to get in there.
It has been a great month!
Isn’t it glorious to live here in
God’s country?! I’m looking
forward to the fall colors and
aromas. And, I have to admit, I
haven’t been able to wait for
my apples to get ripe. They
taste so good, even green!
Take care of yourself and
come join us for lunch and
conversation.

Prescription Policy Reminder:
Prescriptions are
often ordered for clinic patients from Hi School Pharmacy in St.
Helens, and they are delivered by courier the next day. It is
important that the patient pick up the medicine within 72 hours.
If you are unable to pick up your prescription when notified,
please make arrangements for the clinic to hold the prescription
for you until you can pick it up. Prescriptions not picked up will
be returned to the pharmacy after 72 hours.
This is a valuable service to our community, making it possi
ble for patients to get the medicines they need without making a
special trip to a drug store. The Providence Staff appreciates
their patients’ cooperation. Please contact Tana if you have
questions or concerns.

Mammovan schedule: The mammovan schedule for
the rest of this year is November 15 and December 20. Sched
ules for the new year will be out soon. You may call the clinic to
schedule.
New Medical Technician: Jeanette Doherty is the new
Medical Assistant at Providence Family Medicine-Vernonia.
Jeanette has 10 years of experience in her field and is qualified
as an x-ray technician. This personable lady graduated Rho
Theta Kappa (that means with very high honors) from Mt. Hood
Community College in their Medical Assistance Program, and
has worked for Providence Clinics around the area for most of
her career.
Jeanette is a single mom and a Vernonia resident, having
lived here about a year with her teenage daughter. She likes the
small town atmosphere here and the people. Being an outdoor
person, she enjoys the hiking trails and clean air of the country.
Beside hiking, other hobbies include dancing, “any kind”, and
gardening.
“I am really enjoying my work at the clinic, and especially like
not having a long commute every day,” she says.
