Elephant Garlic Festival offers aromatic events in North Plains
The third Annual Elephant
Garlic Festival is set to take
place Aug. 18-20 in North
Plains. Admission is free to the
festival grounds at the Jessie
Mays Community Center,
30975 NW Hillcrest Ave.
The festival offers a wide ar­
ray of activities with concerts, a
parade and of course all of the
garlic products one can imag­
ine, plus a few you’ve never
considered!
Garlic crab cakes, garlic
sausages, garlic ice cream and
even garlic lattes will be avail­
able for consumption, as well
as a garlic pancake breakfast
on Saturday. Ronald MacDon­

Dance/Drill Clinic
The Banks Lady Braves
Dance and Drill team will hold a
dance clinic for boys and girls
ages 3 and up.
The clinic will be held from
9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m., Aug. 16-
18, at Banks High School.
Cost is $40, and includes a T-
shirt and snack.
Clinic participants will walk
in the Banks Parade on Aug.

and stage shows will be in full
swing to entertain and delight.
A car show will run from 10
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday,
until just before the coronation
of “Mr. and Mrs. Elephant Gar­
lic.” The only requirement of
this contest is a physique that
resembles the herb the festival
is named for.
Winners will preside over
the 2000-2001 Grand Festival
parade and represent the Ele­
phant Garlic Festival at public
events throughout the year.
The Grand Festival Parade
will wind through town from the
North
Plains
Elementary
School, ending at the festival
grounds. Michael MacMillan
and Chris Walters are the
Grand Marshals of this year’s
parade.
Pony rides will be available
all three days of the festival.
The festival is open from
3:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday,
11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday,
and noon to 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
Animals are not allowed at
the Elephant Garlic Festival
