non-profit NTLP has awarded
more than $90,000 in scholar­
ships for college-bound stu­
dents. More than 4000 teen
leaders have attended this
conference.
The program features a line­
up of speakers who motivate,
educate and inspire young
people. There are also hands-
on workshops and interview
sessions which prepare teen
leaders for future challenges.
The three day event will cul­
minate with the naming of this
yea r’s Outstanding Leaders for

dents will head for basketball
camp, football cam p, cheer­
leading ca m p ...o r ju st plain
camping. But hundreds of moti­
vated teens will head for lead­
ership camp!
Myriam Gendron-Dupont, a
senior at Vernonia High School
will be one of more than 200
participants from around the
state involved in the 2000 Na­
tional Teen Leadership Pro­
gram, to be held at St. M ary’s
College, Moraga, California.
Entering it’s ninth year, the
2000. The young man and
woman designated this year’s
Outstanding Leader will each
attend include Foreign E x­

recognition, OSSOM Reg. 2
Rep, Metropolitan Youth Sym ­
phony, leadership class, band
and cham ber orchestra.
Her attendance has been
m ade possible because of

hamburgers, hot dogs, buns,
and refreshments, as well as
the necessary condiments and
paper plates, forks, spoons,
and knives. The public is invit­
ed to attend and learn more
about the activities of the His­
torical Society.
The Colum bia County His­
torical Society will hold its sec­
ond annual “ Picnic In The Park”
at W aterfront Park in Olde
Towne St. Helens, behind the
old county courthouse, on July
26 at 12:30 p.m.
The socie ty w ill provide
sponsorships donated by Ver­
nonia V olunteer Firefighters;
Vernonia Booster Club; Ver­
nonia Realty & Insurance C en­
ter; Buds & B loom s; Jam es

High Faculty and Staff.
Myriam Gendron-Dupont
receive a $500 cash award. A
total of $3,000 will be awarded
at the Sunday afternoon Award
Ceremony.
Some of the activities that
qualified G endron-D upont to
S cott Burge, R epublican
nominee for County Com m is­
sioner, was selected as an al­
ternate delegate to the R epub­
lican National Convention be­
ing held in Philadelphia, July
31-Aug. 4.
As an alternate, Burge will
be on the floor of the conven­
tion and will replace delegates
as needed throughout the con­
vention.
“ I believe this will give me a
great opportunity to discuss
with other leaders throughout
our great nation issues that
concern the people of C olum ­
bia County,” he said.
