District tourney ends girls’ golf A sanovic, Tipton u n d efeated a t S u n s e t
The Vernonia High School
girls golf team finished their
season with the district tourna­
ment, held May 2 and May 8.
On the final day of the dis­
trict tournament, held at the As­
toria Country Club and Golf
Course, only one of the Lady
Loggers, Liana Traylor, was in
attendance. Nevertheless, Tray­
lor scored her personal best,
with 143 strokes on 18 holes.
Between the two dates for
the district tournament, the
team played their final home
match, against Seaside High
School, with one player miss­
ing. Alex Hayes was unable to
attend either the tournament or
the Seaside match.
Scores for nine holes:
Megan Peura, 60 strokes
Liana Traylor, 73
Jessie Doane, 74.
Three of the four golfers at­
tended the first day of the tour­
nament at Quail Valley Golf
Course in Longview on May 2.
Scores for 18 holes:
Jessie Doane, 147 strokes
Liana Traylor, 157
Megan Peura, 166
Two Loggers make
golf All-League
Vernonia High School golf­
ers Brass Sears and Bryan
Dinger were named to the all­
league teams following district
competition on May 8-9. Sears
placed on the second team,
and Dinger on the third.
“Out of the 15 all-league
spots, Portland Adventist and
Catlin Gabel nabbed nine, but
we got in there with two,” said
Coach James Brookins.
