Lady Loggers season ends in play-offs with loss to Catlin Gabel

Vernonia High School girls var
sity basketball team against
Catlin Gabel, Feb. 22, in the
playoffs with a 52-33 loss.
“The worst part about losing
this gam e,” said senior Kirsten
Hyde, “w as know ing in our
hearts that w e could have
won.”
In the final home game of
the season, the Lady Loggers
were within seven points of
Portland Christian, but lost 48-
55.
“All of the girls played hard,”
said coach Vince Baker. “The
seniors knew it was their last
home game.”
Senior Erica Hobart was the
leading scorer, with 17 points,
15 of them from 3-point shots.
Bridget Titus, also a senior, had
nine points, while Hyde had
seven points and nine re
bounds.
“This game was a success
because the y are a tough
team,” said Hyde. “We showed
ourselves how well we can play
when we work as a team."
Feb.15 against Knappa, the
Loggers lost 30-59.
Hobart had high points with
11, while Hyde had six points
and five offensive rebounds.
Senior Casey W eller added
three points and four rebounds.
Hobart is in the top 10 of five
league categories, and senior
Alexis Posley is in the top ten
of three league categories.
Hyde led the league in blocked
shots as of the Feb. 10 game
against Warrenton.
The girls season finished
12-11 overall, and 8-7 in
league.
Jayvee boys’ basketball season comes to an end
The Vernonia High School
junior varsity boys basketball
season ended Feb. 17, in a
home game against Portland
Christian. The Loggers lost 76-
24.
The leading scorers were
junior Eric Patterson with 11
points,
Rondo
ended
league
and sophomore Keith
with five. The Loggers
the season with a 4-10
record and 7-13 overall.
Feb.15, the team traveled to
Knappa and came home with a
70-33 loss.
Freshman Paul Orlando was
the high scorer with nine
points, followed by Patterson
and freshman Eric W eller with
six points each.
“These were two tough
games to finish on,” said coach
Bob Bruce. “We had ups and
downs throughout the season.”
