were previously published and a copy may

STANLEY M. C O N G D O N
S tanley M orton C ongdon, 75, V er
nonia, died Jan. 23, 2000, in Forest
G rove. A m em orial service is pending.
Interm ent w ill be in the H elvetia C em e
tery in H illsboro.
Mr. C ongdon w as born in Portland,
to C harles M. and H elen (M oses) C on
gdon. He w as raised in the H elvetia
area and graduated from Benson High
School in Portland.
Mr. C ongdon served in the U.S.
N avy w ith the S eabees in the South
Pacific in the S o uth Pacific durin g
W orld W ar II. He w as a M achinist 1st
C lass at the tim e of his discharge.
He m arried Fern Pieren in 1945, in
Vancouver, W ash. T he y lived in the St.
Johns and Laurelhurst areas of Port
land before m oving to H elvetia, w here
they lived from 1962-1977.
Mr. C ongdon served on the C ity of
Portland Fire D epartm ent fo r 29 years
and w as a lieutenant at the tim e of his
retirem ent in 1975. T he fam ily later
lived in B eaverton before m oving to
Vernonia in 1982.
He w as active in the hom e con
struction business in Portland, Arizona
and the O regon C oast a fte r his retire
ment. He w as a m em be r o f the H ills
boro Elks Lodge; Yuma, Ariz., M oose
Lodge; Eagles Lodge, O cean Park,
W ash.; and the M aso nic Lodge of
Tigard.
Survivors include his w ife; d a u g h
ters S u san W a lsle b e n o f P o rtlan d,
Julie Prohaska of Vernonia, and M ari
lyn C avallero o f Linnton, five g ra nd
daughters and tw o grandsons.

died Jan. 22, 2000, at the A dventist

G allaher o f the Buxton A sse m bly of
God C hurch officiating.
Mrs. K om m er w as born Jan. 17,
1906, in Hawley, Keen County, M in
nesota, to H arold and Helen P. (P eter
son) Solwold. She w as raised and ed
ucated in M innesota.
She m arried Edw ard W. K om m er in
1923, in M oorhead, M inn. T hey made
their hom e in D ilw orth, M inn., until
1936, w hen th ey m oved to Oregon
City, th en to Buxton in 1937. H er hus
band died in 1978. Follow ing her h us
ban d ’s death, Mrs. Kom m er rem ained
in B uxton until 1993, w hen she m oved
to Portland to live w ith her daughter
and family.
Mrs. K om m er was a hom em aker.
She w as a m em ber o f the Buxton A s
sem bly o f God C hurch, and the Buxton
C om m unity Club.
She w as also preceded in death by
tw o brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Lau
rel E., of Eugene, C.E. o f Lebanon, and
G ary L. of Buxton; a daughter, Yvonne
R itchie o f Portland; a sister, Lorraine
R oosa o f Lebanon; tw elve grandchil
dren, eighteen great-grandchildren and
num erous g reat-great grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.

Mr. Blunk w as born M ay 19, 1922,
in M oorland, Iowa. W hen he w as very
young, the fam ily m oved to Clatskanie,
and he graduated from R ainier High
School. A fter graduation, he m oved to
Portland.
He w as a consulting engineer and
w orked in the m aterials handling field
for m ore than 40 years, m ost recently

Aum sville, died Jan. 11,2000. A private
service will be held.
Mr. Brandt was bom August 21,
1935, in Tillam ook and was raised in
M cM innville, Tillam ook, and Roseburg.
He graduated from R oseburg High
School in 1953, then earned a degree
in education from O regon C ollege of
Education, now W estern Oregon State
College.
He m arried Rena VanHorn in 1954;
they later divorced. In 1982, he m arried
Shirley Goodwin.
Mr. Brandt served four years in the
A ir Force, then w orked for a grocery
business in M onm outh and becam e a
b u y e r fo r W e st C o a st G ro ce ry in
Salem , w here he w orked for m ore than
20 years. He m oved to the Turner-
Aum sville area after retirem ent.
Survivors include his wife; daugh
ters, Cheryl Lapraim of C lackam as,
and Lori M iller of M anning; son, Mike of
M cM in nville ; ste p-da u gh ters, Laurie
G oodw in of G rants Pass, R enee G o od
w in and Terri G oodw in, both of Salem ;
and eleven grandchildren.

Mr. S pencer w as b om Sept. 29,
1927, In Vernonia. W hile an infant, his
fam ily m oved to G resham , w here he
lived until m oving to L eb an on tw o
years ago. He graduated from G re
sham High School and O regon State
University.
He w as a Portland firefighter for 23
years, retiring in 1986. He also owned
Spencer G uernsey Farm s, a dairy in
G resham . In 1959 he m arried Sally
Galbraith.
