Lack of consistency hampers Vernonia’s junior varsity girls team
The Vernonia High School
junior varsity girls basketball
team has a 3-8 record at the
halfway point of their season
with six games remaining.
Portland Adventist left VHS
Jan. 31 with a 48-38 victory
over the Loggers.
“The game was not as in
tense as the Lady Loggers
have played in the past, but all
team s have th e ir ups and
downs,” said coach Jeff C he
ney. “ It was a learning experi
ence for everyone.”
Ending the first quarter, the
Loggers had a 12-4 lead, but
Portland Adventist nibbled at
and took the lead, and the girls
never recovered from there.

had seven, and freshman Tr
isha Titus contributed six. Spry
also had seven rebounds.
“Portland Adventist was able
to make easy lay-ups when the
girls w eren’t paying attention,”
said Cheney. “ I think if we had
been able to stop those points,
we would have won the game."
The jayvee girls were able to
hold Oregon Episcopal School
to 21 points, winning 41-21.
“We pressed for the first half
and got them out of their
gam e,” said Cheney. At the
beginning of the third, the Lady
Loggers increased the intensi
ty, bringing their lead to 16
points.
“OES pretty much gave up
after that," said Cheney. “They
continued to play, but they nev
er closed the scoring gap."
Leaders w ere Titus, w ith
nine points, and Normand with
eight. Normand also had eight
rebounds in the game.
Junior Rose Peets hit the
team ’s first three point shot of
the season as well.
The Lady Loggers faced

came home with a 63-25 loss.
